the only way the OEM key will work is if Windows 7 was purchased because both 32 bit and 64 bit disks are packaged together, if the 64 bit disk is a burned copy I forsee issues. The reason is a packaged set will have the same oem codes within the disks.

Oh right,
see they arent,
i got my code from a microsoft university collaboration scheme,
and i have been given a 32 code and a download for the 32bit version,
but i can also download the 64 bit version although the code says 32,
does that mean it is only the 32bit it will work with?
btw this is completely legit, i am doing no illegal downloading

I'm amazed at how often this is asked, despite the fact the keys worked for either platform in Vista as well.

Anyway, as for the OEM license, those keys works with either platform as well. I've been able to swap x86 to x64 on several OEM laptops that the owners have upgraded from 2 GB to 4 GB of memory.
