i need a new laptop with a 32 bit operating system. is windows 7 starter 32 bit?

Yes, although Win7 Starter is a fairly stripped-down version of Windows 7. Unless you're getting a *netbook* (and not a laptop), you should be looking for systems with Windows 7 Home Premium. That also comes in a 32bit version, although you may have to be a little more careful when purchasing the laptop to make sure it's preinstalled with the 32bit version of Home Premium.

I do medical transcription. I am going to need a laptop with windows 7 32 bit and I'm having a hard time finding a laptop that is not 64 bit. any ideas where i can get one cheap, only need 2 gb

Although rare, 32 bit still exist on some laptops. I found these two on Newegg.

Thanks everyone for your help. I wish I knew more about this stuff but I don't. Are any of the cheap laptops at Walmart 32 bit? I live in a small town in Texas and the only place we have to buy laptops is Walmart.

You would need to go to the store and ask an employee, I believe the only way to get 32-bit Laptops is through Online orders.

I looked online at Walmart but it doesn't say on some of the laptops if it is 32 or 64 bits. I thought I could buy one online from Walmart and have it delivered here to our store.

i was trying to be cheap, lol, since I would just be using the computer to type transcription and I knew the ones at walmart cost about 250.00. I will probably go ahead and order from the website you found for me. I don't know enough about this stuff to be picky, lol. Thank you VERY much!

I'm curious about that. I personally haven't encountered any 32-bit software that wouldn't run on a 64-bit system.

It exists, mostly software that requires requisite drivers. I've seen medical imaging software specifically fall in this category.

Its the drivers, he would most likely be able to use the drivers in 32 bit, but have to disable Driver Signature Enforcement and... Just buy a 32 bit laptop.

Or, what you could do is buy a 64 bit Windows 7 laptop, then install 32 Windows with it.

Although Windows 7 has a 64bit version even that can run most 32bit applications without problem. In fact the majority of applications on my 64bit Windows 7 Home Premium are 32bit applications.

Do you have specific information that this application will not run on 64bit Win 7 and that it will run on 32bit Win 7?

Its a medical app, which would probably require drivers that are only compatible with 32 bit and have issues with 64 bit. Except the drivers though, 32 bit applications work fine 64 Windows 7 (Google Chrome for example).
