32" or Bigger HDTV.

I would like to hear peoples opinions on the size of a 32" and bigger HDTV, are you happy with a 32" or bigger or are you not happy? etc etc.

I'm happy with a 32" screen but with HD you do sit closer to get the best from it. So it really it depends on the size of room and viewing distance, I sit about 4' - 5' away and HD looks good. I also use it as a monitor for my PC and it works well as that even on 24 fps.

I have a 32" Visio LCD HDTV in my bedroom and I'm quite happy with it. I have a 50" Panasonic Plasma in my living room. I sit between 7ft-11ft away from it and it's ideal for that size room. Any bigger and it would be too big. With fixed pixel display tv's, if you sit too close to them, they don't look their best. (I've got some friends who bought too big of a TV for their space and the only way it looks great is to stand outside their living room window and look at it from outside).

I have an LG 1080p 32", i am really happy with that, i must sit near enough 10 feet away, and it looks great. I could always move my tv stand, but i think that would make the tv be to close for me.

The rule of thumb for viewing distances is somewhere between 1.5 x the diagonal size of screen and 2.5 x the diagonal size of screen.

So, a 32" tv would be 32 x 1.5 = 48 inches to 80 inches. So, 4ft to 6.7ft.

If you sit back 10ft, your ideal screen size could include 46" to 52"

At the end of the day, if you are happier sitting further back...there is nothing wrong with that. Better to be a little too far away than a little too close.

I am gonna buy Samsung 55" 3D led tv soon. I was also considering 46", but I have seen both of them live and chose 55". 46" is good enough if the distance between you and tv is something like 5 metres, but I like 55" more. It's also recommended to buy tv with bigger screen when you're gonna watch 3D movies.

With a 55" TV, you should be sitting somewhere between 6.9ft and 12ft away for it to be ideal.

My friends bought a 65", which is 8.13ft to 13.5f...and they are about 7.75ft away. It's dark and you can see pixels being that close. Around 12ft away is in their front yard looking at the TV and it looks excellent. <---This right here is reason that BIGGER IS NOT ALWAYS BETTER applies.

Seems you are right ... 12 ft = 3,6576 metres ... my distance is gonna be 2 metres more, so it's okay. I think, the best is when you see tv live and then you can decide easily.

Yeah, 5 meters is just over 16ft. At that distance, 70" is just fine.

When you go out and do comparisons in stores, try to get a handle on how they sound as well as how they look.

The cabinets for these things are usually quite small and there isn't much space to fit speakers. The speakers may be mediocre to begin with and are often pointing down rather than toward the viewer. Result is that they can sound quite muffled.

Many of them do not have any way of playing back their sound through a home stereo setup of some kind.

And I'm fortunate in that I cannot see the 3d technology. So, I don't have to buy a new TV for the 3d craze. I had a wandering eye as a kid (amblyoplia)...which renders me incapable of seeing the 3 dimensional effect.

Hey, i just moved my tv stand which was way to close to the wall (Means i can clean and get better cable management on the go) and it looks better having it closer. Wicked. About 6 to 7 feet away from it now. Better.

I have a 55" and it looks great . I'm a TV tech, and see them all, and the bigger TV gives you more of the "home theater" experience. Coupled with surround sound and a blue ray player, and you can really enjoy the Smurf movie

I've been told that I'd need about a 40" one to fit in with my room and the sitting distance of us both, that's when we need to get a new TV, I'm still using an old CRT one which is 28"

I've got a 46" plasma. Great picture. It looked SO BIG when I first got it, but you'd be surprised how quickly you get used to it, and it no longer seems large at all.

They say you really need to get a 70" if you want the "wow factor" to last... I thought they were nuts, but I guess they are right.

I'm the same with my 58" - still impressive, yet it no longer has that "Wow, it's big" feeling. It's now 'adequate'.

At least with larger sizes they give you some versatility where you can sit. Some like to sit on top, others like to sit far away. I sit anywhere between 5-12 feet away; usually 7ft, because that's what's comfortable to me.

(As an added bonus I can also watch the TV 30ft+ away from outside the door whilst having a cigarette. A pipe dream with my old CRT )
