32bit/64bit compatability

I recieved a software CD (T-PDS 2.2) from a company called Transtronics, unfortunetly the 32bit version supplied will not install into my 64bit laptop because of compatibility problems. I have passed it by Microsofts Compatibility Center but the center insists that it cannot be installed because of...incompatibility!

Can anyone recommend a course of action/work around if there is any for this particular issue, any help would be much appreciated.

Have you tried to install the WinXP mode?

Convert your computer to a 32bit Windows or contact software vender and see if they have or will write their software in 64bit?

Do you have any other computer you can install?
Maybe buy a $100 computer on Craigslist and install using one with WinXP.


That's all I can come up with at the moment.

I still have an 32bit laptop which I can use, I have just bought a 64bit win7 laptop as an update which may prove to be a more of a nuisence that I had anticipated.
The problem with all the more modern laptops is that they are USB porting which is another problem when wanting an I/O port for RS232 use when programming PLC's.
RS232/USB converter modules are not very efficient, I will have to hang on to one of my old PC's with a D9 port although the PC will prove to be unfriendly for transporting around.
The Software provider has no immediate plan to provide a 64bit version.

As a rank amateur, I can only suggest -

Old software may run best on old hardware. ("Old" means pre-Vista, which was in broad release in January of 2007.)

The XP mode that IggyAZ mentioned is XP running in a virtual machine under Win7. It's available for free with Win7 Pro and Ultimate. (Probably Enterprise as well.) That may be worth a try. If you have an available XP license, there are other VM schemes that could work.
