32bit vs 64bit

From a gaming perspective, is it best to have a 64bit OS or a 32bit OS? Just that I saw a post here earlier saying that 64bit uses up more resources and results in lower performance for games.

Here is one way to look at it.
In 32-bit you can have a max of 4gb or ram this includes system ram, pci memory, cpu caches, and video card ram.
In 64-bit you can have (dependent on your os) as much as you want.
If you have 8 gigs of system ram 1 gig video card, then all the other tid bits of memory, while running a 64-bit would you ever notice that extra 256MB of ram being used?

But if you are running a 32-but only app it is emulated and the performance will be about the same performance as a 32-bit machine you will not see much of a performance boost.

But while if you have a 64-bit program(which alot of the newer gamers are starting to develop 32 and 64 bit engines) You will se a HUGE performance boost over running it in 32 bit since it can use that extra ram :)

But that is coming from a 64-bit fan boy. I have used it since xp-x64 came out and it has come along way since MS opened it up to mainstream users.

Well said but there are some incompatibilities with having the 64bit OS and hopefully a lot of those will be fixed or added support soon. If you run into issues don't get angry cuz I've run into a lot of BS including not being able to use CS4 on my 64bit, but im sure that when October 22nd comes around there will be more support in demand. But I'm ok with not being able to use some things if it means I can use ALL my RAM and video ram all in collaboration, i feel its well worth it!
