32x to 64x Ultimate

I have the Ultimate x86 disk from the launch last fall. I also have Professional x64 Upgrade iso I downloaded via Digital River (MS student deal). Burned the iso and installed Pro x64. Now that I have a x64 OS (besides HP x64 on laptop) I decided to create a disk that would allow me to install Ultimate x64. I used the ei.cfg removal too and verified that ei.cfg was no longer on the disk I created using this link:

Which free burner do folks recommend? I used ImgBurn. In another thread, it says Magic Burner had issues.

Magic Iso is good, for best results burn at slowest speed

I use ImgBurn or the built-in Win7 burner. You can manually extract the ei.cfg file from extracted files, then use ImgBurn to recompile the ISO from files and burn to DVD using ImgBurn.

Or simply run the ei.cfg removal tool again on the ISO, then browse into Sources folder using PowerISO or 7zip, etc., to see if it's gone before burning another DVD.

Until I installed a new DVD SATA drive a couple of days ago I didn't have much of a choice. I just retired my trusty Plextor IDE drive. Very quiet and reliable, just too slow. I will miss it.

So I goofed by not recompiling it first. I looked and it appeared completely gone but in fact it was still there by not saving it first.

FWIW, PowerISO will not save large files unless it's a registered version.

This time I tried a different approach. I used Virtual Clone Drive to mount the ISO after applying the eicfg removal tool. Burned it via ImgBurn and I got to choose which version I wanted. Installing Ultimate x64 now.

From what I have read, my product key from Ultimate x86 should work fine.

Edit: Product key worked fine as expected.
