Windows 7 would start up with a black screen with just my cursor on it. Even the case in safe mode and low resolution mode. Started a restore to previous point (from 3 days prior) and I'm now past the 36 hours point. I can't wait any longer and I'm fairly certain it's not going to stop. What are some steps I could take from here?
Hello and welcome Seacucumber now just how old is this machine /? We need system specs please - but I do think the hard drive is not getting any "younger " if you get my drift. Now there is a really good program but as you cannot boot properly you may have to look inside the machine a check a few details like the motherboard brand and model for example. Check also for crud and dust too.
Have a read through this http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219533-troubleshooting-windows-7-failure-boot.html and see if there is anything you haven't tried but gain 36 hours for a restore is quite ridiculous - usually a few minutes.
