5.1 speakers

Unfortunately for me, the audio drivers for my motherboard do not work so I am forced to live with 2.1 audio instead of 5.1

Are there any ways to get Windows 7 to duplicate the audio onto the 3 unused speakers given that Windows only recognizes the left and right speakers?

I understand that it won't exactly be surround sound since the speakers will be playing the same thing, but it's better than 3 unused speakers.

Are there perhaps any third party drivers or applications that could do this?

Seeing as this is what Via has to say about that audio chip,

Where can I get drivers for the VIA VT1818S and VT1828S audio controllers? - VIA Forums

Drivers for the VT1818S and VT1828S audio controllers must be obtained from the system manufacturer, for example, if the chip is integrated on a motherboard, you need to get the driver from the motherboard manufacturer; if the chip is in a notebook, you need to get the driver from the notebook manufacturer.

VIA provide a basic driver to these manufacturers who then customize it to get the best features for their design implementation.

There isn't much you can do. I would get in touch with Asus directly and see what they have to say as they are apparently the only place you can get the drivers for it. Also the Asus forums,

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Forum- Audio Drivers

while they can provide a great source of info and help, you're lucky if anyone actually from Asus will respond.

Thanks for your help. I have looked for older drivers and asked ASUS directly but there don't seem to be any older drivers. I'll wait for newer drivers that will hopefully fix this problem.

From what I can find that audio chip looks to be Via's latest and greatest (or not so great depending on your point of view), and appears as such to have had a grand total of a single driver release.

Unfortunately all Asus can do in a situation like this is if they get enough complaints, is to get on Via's case about getting an update out.
