I have an XFX ATI Radeon HD 5770. I am trying to overclock the card with my fan set at 100% and it seems no matter how little I overclock, the card is not stable at all. The moment I get into games, everything gets shacky and choppy, so I quickly exit the game. I am looking at the settings everyone else uses on there card to OC with, and I cant duplicate what they are running at normal the card wont go above 50c but it still crashes. I'm using MSI Afterburner for OC as well with catalyst 10.3.

Any suggestions?

Zach

have you tryed using evga precision i find this best to use for OC and i suggest going up in stages of 20MHz or so a time in little steps and this worked ok for me or try using ATI overdrive as this may be a more stable option

Evga precision.PNG I've used Evga precision on different Nvidia cards. I don't think it'll work on an ATI though. As you can see here EVGA | EVGA Precision | EVGA Precision If your card won't handle the slighest overclock I would suspect it is a card the just met the requirements listed in the specs. JMO.Fabe

By chance, have you tried the Overdrive tool within Catalyst?

Just for comparison, I have an XFX 5770 and 5750 in CrossfireX.

The 5770 is oc'd to 950/1400 and the 5750 is 870/1350--no negative issues. I have not tried MSI Afterburner. Speaking of which, you don't have Overdrive and Afterburner trying to both overclock the card at the same time, do you?

Not every single chip overclocks the same. Yours might just be close to it's max as it is and gets unstable when pushed in the least.

I agree could be a chip that just made the grade to clock at advertised speed. Fabe

Yea, if I even go 5mhz higher on the core or memory, the screen starts to flicker...I'm not all that interested in overclocking, just thought it would be fun to try. Guess I will have to say nae for this one. Thanks for the input.

First off, I totally agree with pparks1 and thefabe, but flickering at the increase of 5MHz? That don't sound right. Prior to using Afterburner, did you ever try to oc with Overdrive to see what the result would be?

I also see the usual pre-requisite questions have been overlooked:
-Are the mobo chipset drivers up to date?
-Is CCC and Display driver the latest version?
-Do you have a power supply that is rated to handle the card?

I have done nothing with voltages.
My drivers are as follows:
Driver Version 8.14.10.0735
Catalyst Version 10.3
I have a Thermaltake TR2 RX 750W PSU.

hopes this helps.

Try upping the voltage, if you want to go higher. you can go upwards of 1.2 volts without to much danger.

MSI afterburner. You will probably have to adjust voltage. Go up in stages of 20mhz like said, and continue it with like .2v? Not a real OCing person so I'm unsure, but you need a stable voltage to go with your clock additions.
