According to sources close to Intel, the company is planning to release a six-core Nehalem processor in roughly the same timeframe as the big Lynnfield/P55 release scheduled for later this year.

Useless.

Unless you run software that can handle it - which is nil, at the moment. Hell, it's tricky enough to get quad cores running. This is just another money-grab from Intel.

i see what your saying, because still only a few of my games can make full use of more than 1 of my cores including newer games such as half life 2 so 6 cores wont be any better than 2 or 4.The clock speed is more important.

You guys have no appreciation for innovation, there are more games and apps that are multi core optimized now then there were before there were multi core processors and the trend will only increase in the future, why would you want hold back the amazing progress they are achieving with such comments such as clock speed is all that matters, if that were true why does a dual core 2.13Ghz out perform a P4 3Ghz processor in any test you throw at it?

I call it the craptop.
At work I have a dual quad core Xeon workstation that I can light up to 100% CPU usage doing my 3D simulation and visualization work. Even at home with my i7 Core machine I have no trouble getting all eight virtual cores throbbing with video work. Not everyone just plays games that use only a few cores. :D

Bye.

i would probabally consider getting 1 still because my core 2 duo is still not as good as i would like even though its overclocked to 3.2GHz

a quad core at 3.8GHZ is more than enough. price drops soon enough then it might be worth taking the plunge end of the year im planning or beginning of next year

Crunchy Doodle hit it on the head: gaming is not the point. If fact, the vast majority of the world doesn't give a crap about pc gaming. There are quite a few applications now that scale more or less infinitely. For example, video/audio encoding can easily be spread over a million cores if the product existed. Along with rendering, virtualization (to a point), compression, etc.

These kinds of processors aren't for "leet gamerz" or pretty much any other day to day tasks, which aren't limited much by CPU in the first place.
