6 gig or 12?

so i built this machine and love it. my question is, should i get another 6 gig set of ram like i have now? the price has dropped quiet a bit. would i still be running 12 gig at 7-7-7-20? ill the timing stuff blows me away heres what i have and may add more of:

What do you use the computer for, video encoding or high end graphics? Then yes. If not, then no. Put the money toward an SSD.

Not a guarantee. You could be fine, or you may have to loosen a few timings.

But as Wordsworth pointed out, unless you actually have a serious need for it, the money could be better spent elsewhere.

For average use, 6Gb is already more than enough.

The only reason I run more than 4GB of RAM, is to support a handful of simultaneous running virtual machines.

Agree. Unless you run programs that require that much RAM, or have money to blow, put it somewhere else.

And if you do decide to add more RAM, make sure they match what you already have.

I had the 12gig of RAM itch for a split second than scratched it for something else.... SSD drive

I too agree, its most likely money best spent elsewhere, such as on a SSD.

I have 8GB in my machine, and other than a few 64bit apps i have, I seldom ever use over 4GB. Even gaming.

However, for the few programs that I do have that make use of it, (and I use them often) its nice to have. But for everything else, pointless.
Only you know if you use a lot of apps that would make it a worthwhile investment.

And as already pointed out, for the large majority of PC users, 4-6GB is more than enough.
