6 Month Old Computer Won't Boot

No changes made, but it had been about two weeks since I rebooted. I rebooted yesterday and it would not reboot, even in to safe mode. Being the *complete* idiot I am, I hadn't set a restore point, recovery disc, anything.

It's an Inspiron N410 (I believe).

Startup repair says the following:

"Acls on file c:\windows\system32\sspisrv.dll are not proper. Old value = 0x0"

Three of those messages, sspisrv.dll, SSShim.dll, & ssText3d.scr. I tried restoring the Acls, and it "said" it worked on the first two, but can't find the last one.

Dell has their own handy dandy backup & restore but it has another error when trying to use it. I can probably completely reformat and reinstall, and I would, but I can see that my file directories are still there!

So, any idea how to fix this, or alternately, how to get the data off? My school computer right before finals, so bad deal for me. When I go to startup repair and to the command prompt, for some reason it calls the drive X instead of C, so I can't find it that way.

I'm at a loss. Can someone help?

Oh, and I did create a recovery disc from the net, no way to know if it's working or not though, but I can get to the system recovery options screen.

I looked at your link, and unfortunately I can't get in to Windows, so I don't think so. Can't even get in to safe mode. Only thing I can get in to is recovery mode, but still that doesn't help.

have you tried the instructions in this tutorial? http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/681-startup-repair.html
you need to run it at least three consecutive times. also when you get to the "system recovery options" screen, did you try "system restore" from there? windows sometimes creates restore points after installing updates.
