Solved 64 bit application install question

I'm running 7 Ultimate 64 bit on a 64 system....my question is...certain application set up's are offer a set up that's made for both 32 and 64 bit systems...the same set up for both rather then separate ones....but when I install these app's...many of them install themselves in the 32 bit Program folder rather than the 64 bit one....why is that ? One would think that it should go to the 64 bit folder.

According to your system specs shown here you are running 32 bit. Is that not correct?

Just got 2 new puters and they are both 64 bit.

What applications are getting installed in the 32 Bit folder that you feel should be in the 64 Bit folder?

Some examples would be apps like JetAudio PlusVX, FlashFXP, and Glary Utilities Pro...and there are a few others....the set up that they offer are for both 32 and 64 bit...they aren't separate.

I think that, instead of those apps having both 32 & 64 bit versions, they indicate that they are 32/64 bit. This means they are 32-bit programs that are compatible with 64 bit systems. It's misleading because 64 bit systems support 32 bit apps by design.

You can also look at Task Manager Processes to see if a process is 64 Bit or 32 Bit.
32 Bit processes will display with a *32 in the Image Name.

Ummm...strange you say that...I run ESET NOD 32 as an AV...used the 64 bit installer...it installed in the 64 Programs folder....and yet in the Task Managers Process it shows up with a 32 ??????

I think it's possible any program could install in the "wrong" folder.
To me that would be a problem with the installer for the program.
It really doesn't matter where the program is installed, as long as the installation was successful, it should run.

I don't what to say about ESET NOD 32 / installed with a 64 Bit installer....

It really not that big of deal guys...I was just curious...everything is working fine..it was just a matter of where things were placed....I'm pretty sure we can consider this thread closed....once again...thanks for all your help and interest.

ESET NOD32 is the name not the bit.

Yea, I assumed the 32 in the name implied 32 Bit
I was still curious about this and found an ESET Knowledgebase article that I believe explains why the 64 Bit version would be installed in the 64 Bit folder and show as 32 Bit in Task Manager.
(ESET NOD32 Antivirus (64 Bit) is a Hybrid program that uses 64 Bit code and 32 Bit code)
