64-Bit Browsers other than IE

Currently you really only have a couple of choices if you want x64 browsers to use as your primary browser:

Internet Explorer (8 or 9) or Minefield (Firefox) x64 with Adobe Flash player square (x64 Flash for windows). The nightly Minefield build as posted by Klaw117 previously (ver: 4.0b7pre) is very stable and with flash player square it gives you a full web experience including flash content.

I am personally using the Minefield/Flashplayer square combination. It has given me no problems so far although I do keep an x86 version installed also, just in case.

Google Chrome is 64-bit deffinitely now. Google Chrome 10 is already out.

Google Chrome is the fastest browser I've ever used. And it's built on webkit like Safari :)

Being 64-bit and working on 64-bit are two separately different things. Last I checked Google Chrome (and all Chromium builds) are only compiled in x86 for Windows. There is a x86_64 build for Linux but obviously that wouldn't work on Windows.

I'm using Google Chrome right now. I have 64-bit.

As I said, there is a difference between the browser being 64-bit and working on 64-bit. Just because it works on a 64-bit version of Windows does NOT make it a 64-bit browser.

Yeah. Chrome is not a x64 browser. I'm using Nightly (Minefield as was) and that seems to be the only browser that is 64 bit other than IE.
The fact that they changed the name makes me think they're gonna make this a regular release at some point rather than a side project.
All the important (to me) addons work fine atm. More become usable every day so it's worth installing them even if they are currently incompatible.
Also, some of them say they are incompatible but work fine. Speed Dial isn't supposed to work but it does just fine.:)

What about Firefox? And Safari? Why do you care about having a 64-bit browser? Does Nightly have CSS3? Probably not. It probably makes websites not look nice and does it even have CSS4? Like IE 6 didn't even have hardly anything. The only browsers compatible with my website are:

Google Chrome
Safari
Firefox
IE 9

Any other browsers wont work. And if Nightly doesn't even have JavaScript forget it. You have got to have JavaScript. But I'm sure it does because then you wouldn't be able to post on this forum and you would never be able to use Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Gmail, Yahoo, and any other sites that are practically ran on JavaScript.

Anyways thanks for letting me know about Google Chrome not being 64-bit. But it doesn't seem to make a difference? It works like other browsers but way faster and better. :)

I'm confused with the 64-bit stuff. Like I don't really even care if it works it works that's all that matters. :)

Thanks,
Nathan

Okay, thanks. But Google Chrome still works fine, is there something different about browsers that aren't 64-bit?

Not really Nathan, not yet anyway. I recommend you read that discussion on the benefits of 64 bit software. As you say. Chrome 32 bit plus FF plus Lunascape plus Opera all work fine on a 64 bit operating system.
Consider though that MS have bought out IE9 in 64 bit and that Firefox is releasing betas of a 64 bit browser (Nightly)
Eventually both operating systems and software such as browsers will be all 64 bit so it is the coming thing.
If you look at the free software sticky threads at the top of the software forum page you will see a special "native 64 bit applications" list. There aren't many pieces of 64 bit software available yet but there is more every day. Most 32 bit software will run fine on a 64 bit os so carry on using Chrome if you like it. I use it as a backup in case one of the nightly builds of Nightly renders it problematic as that sometimes happens.
Actually I like using several browsers so I have the four I mentioned installed at the moment. Only Nightly is 64 bit but that's the one that I use regularly. Very slick. very fast and very stable, it also utilises more RAM memory than a 32 bit browser can.
It is no big deal at the moment but 64 bit will eventually be the norm.
Hope this helps, John:)

PS. Go to your user CP and detail the specs of your computer set up. This will be invaluable if you have any problems and need to post a thread about them. Also read the forum rules (top of General Discussion. These are strictly enforced and you don't want to get banned from the best forum for help and general support through inadvertantly breaking the rules:D

Thanks John :)

I also have all of those browsers installed so I can see how my websites that I build look on each of them. Safari and Chrome are almost exactly the same because they're both built on web-kit.

I'm going to download Nightly too so I can see how it works and looks. Does it work a little like Firefox?

Thanks,
Nathan

Yeah. Glad you like it. I think it's great. Also you might want to take a look at Lunascape6. This is a browser that can use web-kit, trident and Gecko engines. I like it although it doesn't seem quite as fast as Chrome or Nightly, but in terms of rendering awkward web pages or sites it covers all the bases
Cheers, John

I've been using it at work and am on leave at the moment though there are some screenshots here.

Unless I missed something, looks-wise there is little/no differences to the regular Firefox and all of the add-ons I've installed seem to be working fine.

As of now, you can choose between Mozilla Nightly or Waterfox.

You can get them in the following links:
1. Nightly
  • Official Mozilla Nightly Website
* but currently (May 13, 2012), they did not put the 64-bit link there so get it from the ftp site

  • Mozilla Nightly Latest Trunk (FTP site)
*something named like this: "firefox-15.0a1.en-US.win64-x86_64.installer.exe" --> check the trunk for latest (this is the latest as of today: May 13, 2012)

2. Waterfox:
