Solved 64-bit Driver for MSI Wind U130 Intel Graphics??

Hello,

I upgraded my MSI Netbook U130 from XP to W7 x64 (I know, why x64 why not just 32-bit? - well that is because I actually upgraded two machines, and the other one was a more recent Lenovo XP machine, and I wanted to download only one type of W7 because of the large download and just purchased two activation keys, that's why). And x64 runs just fine on the Atom processor I have in the MSI Netbook, plenty fast and stable.

Anyway I need a Graphics Driver that works for 64 bit. I have the plain "vanilla" Microsoft driver that will only support 800x600 (not the 1024x600 the U130 used to support on XP), and I don't have the second monitor support I have used on XP to play movies from the VGA output on the side of the Netbook to the computer input of my TV.

MSI shows only a 32-bit driver for W7, and of course that is incompatible (yes I tried to install it anyway). Talked to the MSI tech support and they said that unit is too old and they did not bother with creating an x64 driver for W7.

Does anyone know if Intel has one for the Atom processor and the motherboard onboard (G3550?) graphics, or from any other source? I have tried advertised drivers from two sources (Driver Detective and the MSI scanner driver folks called DGTsoft) and neither of the drivers they supplied work, plus I spent $60 finding that out. DGTsoft actually listed 64-bit drivers, but unless I got the wrong one it was not 64-bit. I have asked for a refund, that was the only driver I needed from them!

I have contacts in to each of them as yet unanswered.

Any help would be appreciated!!!

P.S. If I have downgrade back to 32-bit to get a driver with good capabilities to work, can anyone tell me if I can do a W7 "upgrade" (actually, downgrade, back to 32-bit from the current x64) on that machine without having to do a clean install? In other words can I preserve my programs and documents? If so, then I will have to decide whether to download W7 32-bit from my sales source, or just give up and spare the hassle and live with the generic 800x600 video driver.

If I install 32-bit W7 will I need to purchase another activation key too, or will it honor the one already activated for x64?

Thanks,

Norm

Hi Norm,
W7 came driver complete, generic + manufacturers.
IT might have yours in its store.

Open Device manager >> update Driver >> Browse >> LET ME CHOOSE >> UNTICK show compatible >>
there might be a MSI in the left hand column DEFINATELY an Intel.
Select MSI/intel then in the right hand column scroll thru see if you can see yours.
IF its there install it IGNORE if it states not signed.
(have you used the Personlise option see screenshot)

As for your licence MS doesn't care if its 32/64 the licence is VALID for both.
Swapping will mean ANOTHER re-install

Thanks, but unfortunately even though the Intel Onboard Video Series 4 Driver (425/525) is listed as a driver - when I try to install it I am told it is not compatible with the W7 x64 Operating System that's running. Same message I got from the (probably same) driver I downloaded from Driver Detective. Funny they would list a 32-bit driver in the list al all for a 64-bit system.

Evidently MicroStar (MSI) never actually sold any Wind U100 series Netbooks with Windows 7 64-bit systems (and I understand why, since the max memory is 2GB), so there were probably never any 64-bit drivers made available (at least by them) to MS. If Intel provided any drivers to MS, either I don't have the right one in my system or one NEVER existed.

I will keep trying as bit longer, and thanks for the suggestion. BTW, Yes, when I "personalize" the only video option I get is to make everything 25% bigger on the screen. That is IT!! No Screen 1 or 2, no icon size adjustments, no resolution except 800x600, etc.

I found the driver on an old Intel download website!!

I am so happy and thankful that it was still available to download since 2010. Thanks for your help, I am a happy camper.
