Recently (in the past couple of weeks) 64-bit explorer.exe crashes even when not running (just sitting in taskbar). "Windows Explorer Not Responding" pops up. After explorer.exe is "Restarted" or "Closed", the taskbar is cleared and then restored, but with Desktop Gadget Gallery added.

Clean installation of 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium on new box. Browser is Firefox.

I ran SFC a couple of times but it closes without comment when it reaches 100%. No log file is generated.

I've run four different virus scans.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.
