I know for a fact that i'm running a 32 bit OS but how can i tell if i have a 64 bit system or a 32 bit system? The reason why i ask is because i was playing around with the siw utility and noticed this.

A couple ways to tell are to look at your System Window from Control Panel-System or from System Information from Advanced Tools. SIW might just be telling you you're cpu is 64 bit capable. And of course you wouldn't have two Program Files folders, which 64 bit has one Program Files folder and one Program Files (x86) folder or have a SysWOW64 folder either.

From looking at your complete specs, yes, your system is 64bit capable and you can run 64bit OS if you want.
And don't worry about drivers anymore, pretty much everything has 64bit drivers these days, so go for it if you want too.
I'd double that RAM while I was at it also so you can have full advantage of that aspect of 64bit.

The only difference a normal customer would see between 32-bit and 64-bit is how much you can take... And yet, I don't think it's really worth to go 64-bit if you aren't interressed.

My opinion.

Another thing you'd notice if you had 64-bit that you'd see two program files in c:\

You clicked on the cpu information there. All cpus seen at this time support 64bit OSs as well as the typical 32bit.

The system information tool is indicating the processor you have sees 64bit capability. That's how to understand the way the tool displays both hardware and software information.

swarfega has a good point there as well about seeing two separate Program Files folders when looking at the root of the C if C drive where the 64bit 7 is installed. Surprizingly even the 32bit applications still see their own folders in the Program Files not Program Files(x86) directories.

Yah guys, but from that statement I read that the OP knows he;s running an x86 OS ATM, but is asking if his system is 64bit capable, not asking for confirmation on what he's currently running..

Well its all based on what cpu you have installed. and your E2200 is 64-bit.

If anyones not sure about what their cpu is then wikipedia will have the information on either the specific cpu or the brand.

Yeah i have been running 32 bit OS on this comp since i have had it never knowing that it was 64 bit compatable.Although i'm not sure i would need a 64 bit OS since 32 bit runs good for me it is a nice piece of info to have though.

Yep, 64bit can be in your future if you want, and right now there probably isn't any reason for you to switch. If someday you increase your RAM to get the performance increases that will give you, then yes, go 64bit and then programs that are written to take advantage of 64bit will see a significant increase of performance.
You could give it a go anytime you want too really, no reason you can't, and then you can see what you may have for programs that won't run on 64bit...very few if any for most of us.

i deffinitally think its worth it to go x64 i have been running 64 win7 and 32 xp, i never noticed anything wrong with the x86 xp, but once i started running 7, in x64 i realized how much different it really is. dont get me wrong i know the o.s's are different, but ive noticed a bunch of things i think would also work better in xp if i went 64, so i got it, now i just need to install it, but i need to wait till i back everything up, and ...junk. Im going all 64! i just hope i can find the x64 xp drivers....

Eventually everyone will be going with a 64bit OS. At the present time however there is still quite a bit of things to be seen in the way of driver support for existing hardwares where no XP Pro 64 or Vista 64bit drivers were ever written.

Even MS cautions to be you can locate all necessary drivers before considering any 64bit edition as the main OS. The 32bit 7 however knocks XP out of the loop. The 64bit Windows itself is simply another but improved platform for computing in general.

I thought I had pointed that out in my post.

Don't worry, you did :-)

Upon discovery that my computer is not 64-bit capable, I am canceling that openSUSE download. If my rep was worth anything (thank you, one-time posters over on the Windows 7 RC thread), then I'd rep you.

Of course he did! :D It was simply everyone else getting a bit sidetracked there.

And what do you mean "not 64bit capable"? Just about every cpu since 2003 supports 64bit addressing.

Intel Centrino Duo T2350 sucks noodles. Pure noodles...

It's a 32-bit chip. Not only that, my comp would die with a 64-bit OS on it.

And you'd want to have more than 1GB of memory for it to even be worth it to use a 64 bit OS, preferably 4GB and up.
