Just wondering how to change my music to open up in the 64bit version of WMP instead of the 32bit version.

The only way I've been able to use the 64 bit is by opening it first then playing music. But i'd like to be able to double click the song and open in 64 bit instead of 32bit

thanks

One would think that the standard method of file association would work...

Right click a music file
Choose Open With
Choose Default Program
Navigate to your preferred player.

I did that, but WiMP 32-bit still played. There must be another factor.

The x64 Settings Application by Shark007 allows you to do this as part of the Win7codecs pack.

I have the x64 WMP running as my default player, playing stuff at this very minute.

If you don't want the codecs then maybe you can just install the Settings Application? I'm not sure.

Remember to 'Run as administrator'.

I've tried changing the default program to the 64bit version but it still opens in 32 bit. I even tried renaming the 32bit file and that just gave me an error next time I tried to open a mp3.

It's weird because the 32 bit version actually uses more memory when you look in the task manager window.

I might try that codec pack, but I'd rather not have to install more than I need since WMP plays all my video files just fine so far.

thanks for the replies

Its quite safe to install the codec pack since it doesnt mess with the existing ms one.
