7 freezes while browsing Internet

my cpu freezes when I'm browsing. It makes a repetitive whrilling noise much like that of a helicopter when it freezes. This ONLY happens when i'm surfing and not when I'm playing games, or running other programs. The freezing situation happens with IE8, then i started to use firefox, fine for a while but then, it starts happening with firefox as well.

my system specs:
acer aspire t1800 with 1g of ram. (the 1gig of ram works just fine and I don't think that that's the problem) an anthom 64bit processor, and my drivers are updated.

MR

Im assuming you are running 32bit right? that noise has me worried. one of the only moving parts are HD, and fans. either isnt good.

to find out whats going on can you go into event viewer by typing that in search. go to the windows log, application tab and look for errors (red"X" in left column). see if there are errors relating to IE. find the most frequent error and tell us the event id and source for it

thanks

ken

even if he is using x64. THE noise is NOT GOOD, I'm also interested in (CPU FREEZES).
CPU's do not FREEZE they burn up. that means the computer dies. That would be HEAT. The noise can be FANS, and some HDDs. Its not the OS, nor the CPU. in almost 30 yrs working on computers i have never head a CPU squeel.

Damn! Mine keeps freezing too. I'm using Firefox, and have tried IE8 and Chrome just to be sure. The other thing I've noticed is it mainly happens when I'm watching flash clips like youtube and such. Pretty much 80% of the time I get a system freeze. Longest I've waited after a freeze up is around 15 minutes, in the hope it'll come good. I have to use the reset button and reboot every time.
I've tried a bunch of drivers for vid cards. Both official ATi and ASUS, mobo drivers, LAN drivers ...I'm running out of idea's.

Really hoping someone nails this soon.

I notice 6 problems with your system!
1. your using x64 OS
2. you watch UTube

j/k laugh and have fun.
I use none of what you have so can not assist at all.

Thanks for all the help bt the same problems are still happening. The noise is not coming from the computer itself, but from the speakers. it is a loop of the last 0.01 seconds of the sounds playing before it froze. I'm prepared to buy more ram if necessary, but I really want to confirm the cause of the problem first. I am willing to try just about anything to get rid of the problem.

i have run into the same problems...IE8 takes forever to load and sometimes refuses to load and Firefox is quicker but hangs at times also...seems to happen more on machines where I updated Vista to Win7 RTM

Same thing happened to me. I was in sleep mode and when I came out of sleep mode and started to use Firefox again it was extremely slow. I ended up having to end the process and restart Firefox. After that it worked fine. Google Chrome is the best in my opinion. It always works and is super fast + jump list support!

Well, good luck i've come by this thread, or I would have reverted back to Vista.

Fixes I have tried but did not seem to work:
- disabling IPHelper
- setting the EnableActiveProbing registry parameter to 0

Fix that worked:
- rolled back the video driver to 180.48

The way my 7 freezed:

- the whole system just hanged at random intervals, for up to 1 minute at a time, during which nothing responded.
- this happened whether I used a browser or not, although it seems that it hanged quicker if I had used a browser.

Note to moderator: make this thread sticky, it's quite useful.

hello, i only registered to say thank you.
i had random freezing all the time, i didnt know what to do, what is causing it, i tried reinstalling 1000x times, tried both 32bit and 64bit, nothing changed. i was really frustrated, then i found this thread and my problem is gone :)
i did all the things mentioned above, and i think it was a the video card driver that fixed for me aswell. i also had a creative audigy 2 card which i removed after i installed the driver so either that or the driver fixed it, and its all working perfectly (except for Gtalk, which freezez after i start it but i dont care that much)

so thanks again for this thread, now my pc is working as it is intended :) im so happy :)

im a bit afraid to update video card drivers for now, i might try it in 3-4 months.

since i couldnt figure out whats the reason of the crashes, i leave my config info here, so if anybody with the same hardware experiences the random freezing, he'll know what to do.

Glad you solved the problem.
I had since updated my video driver to 191.07 and it seems that the freezing issue has been solved.

Hi. I registered at this lovely forum for this very thread.
sorry if i'm bumping a dead/old/closed thread

I have the same problem as virtually everyone else and actually have the exact same problem as someone else being my system freezes when viewing anything 'flash' based in my browser (FF, IE, Chrome).
I've had IP Helper disabled and I'm running off the 195.xx drivers on my nvidia 9600gt.
I've literally restarted my system after it froze only to have it freeze again when I restore the last pages from my interrupted browsing session (Encyclopedia Metallum set it off the past few times).

So is the suggestion of 'rolling back' to a previous vista display driver set the working?
is there something else or new updates to this?

Clean install / Win7 64
MSI K9N2 - 4 gigs ram - Nvidia 9600gt
AMD Phenom 9950 Quad - 2.6ghz
onboard sound (removed Audigy2zs from previous assumption it was source of problem)

Well, you could try to rollback to 180.48 or older. You could also try reinstalling your flash addons with older flash versions, see www.filehippo.com for that.

Hello!!!

I guess that our mobo is the root of every trouble! I have an Abit AB9 , with a dual core processor E6700, 2 GB of RAM and a GeForce 8600GT graphics card! I have the same problem, whenever i had a browser window open or even msn sometimes, everything was freezing and i had to reboot my pc.
I'll try to rollback the driver, install all the new ones for the mobo and disablethe IPhelper and i'll tell you what happened!

Thanks for the existence of this topic :)

Hopefully this helps someone. I noticed everyone seemed to have Nvidia GPU's and did some research. I also noticed 64bit OS seems to be an issue as well.
I've found upgrading my drivers and flash by following all this:
FLAWLESS FLASH VIDEO
has seemed to work for me, I've tried the sites that trigger the freeze and haven't seem to have one yet.
Oh - an if you follow my suggestion or choose to roll back remember to run Adobes uninstaller of flash just to be safe.
How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control

I got mad with the freezing issues and tried to install ubuntu over windows 7. I had the same freezing problem over the installation. I finally unplugged all my usb devices and the problem was located on the wireless mouse :S What to say???:sarc:

Well, it's time to laugh our as*es out! Seriously!! As I have said before, I have a desktop PC. I've made everything I found in the forums for the freezing issue, and nothing happened. It continued freezing. But i have forgotten a thread, which contained the solution of changing the power saving option from balanced to high performance. I did so and everything stopped freezing!! I can now be happy with my windows 7!! Guys, try it! I was about to throw my desktop pc in the sea and it was such a silly issue :P
