7000 vs 7057

This is exactly why MS released 7 for beta testing. As you can read there a lot if different results. Some good and some bad. To be honest though I think anyone who has tried 7 on 10 pcs and couldn't get it to work on any of them should retire, I'm sorry. I have used the upgrade from vista to 7057 with only the desktop.ini issue on every pc. I will say 7057 doesn't seem to be as stable as 7000 I had some issues with nvidias drivers (who would have thought and I do not blame 7 for it), I think its about time to switch to ATI.

Card at Newegg.com. That's very close to what I paid when tigerdirect.com had it. I overclock it with the ati tray tools to well above 800 mhz gpu and well above 2100 mhz memory without a hiccup. It stays as cool as can be, only reaching like 65 degrees C playing the most demanding games. Highly recommended. And I do this all with a 350 watt power supply, which is not recommended at all...but hey, it's happenin for me. :)

Ohhhhhh very tempted.... i was worried the agp drivers would not work with 7 when looking at these cards before...

LarryLaser,

I would like to highlight that the build 7057 is stable as 7000 or more. It does not cause a problem such as hanging or the blue screen etc. Its been 10 days, still no problem. MS has done lot of improvement for this release at least. I think you guys are doing something wrong or might be some 3rd party sw that is causing the problems for you.

I have been using Build 7000 since it has been available and havent had any issues at all. I had one BSOD but it was self inflicted one. I was experimenting with Realtek NIC drivers. IE8 was buggy in the beginning but Microsoft issued a update for it and runs good now.
I thought I would download IE8 and install it on my XP laptop... and wow... it had alot of issues. IE8 wouldnt load webpages etc.... went back to IE7 .

Hi Win 7

Powercolor HD 3850 agp here and i love it. Drivers from Ati work great in Win 7 7048 no probs. This card most likely will be the last agp we get, you know how most posts go (your still useing agp, that's old tech:cry:) which really doesn't bother me cause it still works great.:)

Ive had no issues upgrading. Non that I noticed anyways.

Well it updated , Now using the latest version 7057 , was using 7000 before

- I had to uninstall my xfi sound drivers as it wouldn't update with them installed ( reinstalled after update )

- Need to reinstall my graphics drivers aswell as it nuked my updated ones lol

- Security center had to be disabled again ( via system settings & admin tools services ) , i do weekly checks myself anyway
Windows 7: Hide Action Center Notification Messages (For Geeks)

- Used pnputil -e to check for old windows 7 7000 version drivers and removed if 7057 are listed next to it

- Desktop.ini kept on loading up and showing as a notepad on desktop on every reboot fixed via link
Fix Windows 7 Build 7057 Desktop.ini Opening on Every Reboot

- Windows Firewall and defender had to be disabled again in services , i use my own hardware/software

Had to do some stuff , i didn't expect a smooth ride but i was still pleased. Though this build doesn't seem as snappy as 7000

Just a update, I have stayed with 7057. Was thinking of going back to 7000 but some of the issues I had seem to have gone away..

I still get some but they are caused by other apps, still not good but at least I know why. Nero Vision crashes my gadgets, BSoD caused by me and my overclocking :p, random app failure is well, app failure (happens in Vista, XP, etc.). I had managed to "see" all these issues on the first day after loading 7057 and so had the "feel" that 7057 was a bit less than 7000.

Strange issues like freezes, video crash, media center bugs, seem to have somehow have corrected. These I have no idea, but if it is not crashing don't fix it.

So now I have to say, 7057. :D

You are not alone - when I tried to install Norton 360 ver 3, I crashed the system everytime, requiring a total system restore. After installing AVG 8, things calmed down. But I still have compatibility issues with Itunes 8.1 and all of the MS Office programs - that really sucks as I have to always rerun the compatilbility tool to make them work. Other than that, I do notice a more responsive startup and shutdown times and very beautiful desktop. Everythings loads much faster than 7000. But I did not have the compatility issues in 7000 that I have now.

Haha ya. Before I bought my HD3850 AGP, I went to Best Buy to see what they had. I'm looking around and all I see is PCI-E. I haven't been in a pc store in a long time beforehand. When I asked, "where are the AGP models", the clerks looked at me like I had two heads on my shoulders lol.

I find 7057 to be less stable than either 7000 or 7048, but I also have to remind everyone who also finds this build less reliable that this is not a release build but an internal one and never designed for external use.

And for LarryLaser...bro, this is a Beta OS and I surely would not recommend you use it with your business machine, especially with high end CAD s'ware which really stresses a system. I would look at your graphics card(s) first as even an 8600GTS is going to find that a bit tough at times, and also having two mismatched cards is....potentially a problem..

Hey "Chappy"
Nice comments.
I know that Win 7 is beta and I am testing it for stability, as for my OS and Computers, This main box is my working box, I am just testing the stability of Win 7 with my system and programs I use constantly, I do not use it for my business.

As for MS, there are a few statements from the Dev team that Win 7 is computable all the way back to the gForce 7900 card.

As for my box, I only have 1 PCIe x16 port, so I can only use one of these cards, but I use 3 Monitors so I need a 2nd card, could not find a 8600 GTS PCI card so I have tried some that I have, the FX 5200 and the gForce 6200OC cards are the newest in PCI that I have. If I decide to build another Computer I might go for one Mobo with 2 PCIe slots, maby later.

As for now, the most graphics that I care ablut is to just watch media files, I don't give a s*&% about gaming or graphics design, just CAD and programming design, I have run benchmarktest on my system (in Win XP x64) and done extremely well.

Question, Do you know of any manufacture that makes a Vid Card that has 3 monitor ports (not the tv port)?

anyway
Thanks
Larry
