Hello Furball and welcome to SevenForums!

You could try the following:

1. Exchange the connectors on the back of your graphics card.

2. If you're using DVI cable to connect your graphics card with you monitor, change it with a vga one, or vice versa.

if the above doesn't solve the problem,

3. Boot again from the installation DVD and select Repair Computer when seen. Select your windows installation and press next. Open Command Prompt and type:

bcdedit /set {default} detecthal yes

Try all the above in the given order and let us know if anything helps

tried those suggestions too
got the operation completed succesfuly but nothing changed

The reason I asked about the graphics card was on an earlier beta build I had a black screen after boot up - at the log in screen.

I could log in (without seeing) by typing my password and hitting enter.
Desktop was a black screen.
I traced it to Windows 7 and ATI extending the desktop to the right thinking I had dual display...
I dont, but do have both digital and analogue cables hooked up to my single ATI card.
Took me a long time to figure that one out.
BTW, it happened only after I had enabled the Sidebar and rebooted.
Ended up that after a reinstall (on a fresh install, everything worked) as soon as I did thar sidebar thing again, black screen again.

Might help...might not

Hello Reno..

Do you remember if you had set the option "Number of Processors=2" in msconfig? If you did, you must undo that and try again my bcdedit suggestion above.

To unset the cpus in boot DVD - repair computer- command prompt:

bcdedit /deletevalue {default} numproc

Hope it helps
