Yes I was getting same thing when I tried COD WAW and it was also crashing the game, single player works fine and it never happened on the last build.

has anyone found a solution for this yet? my games will run fine for a while and then both my CPU cores will spike at 100% and that's when the lag sets in, but only for a few seconds. also, i just did a hardware upgrade (new motherboard, processor and ram) and i don't have the motherboard drivers for my system yet (asus didn't make 7 drivers for my board yet). can anybody help? i went out of my way to put in a bit more powerful hardware than i really needed with the hope of playing my games a bit more maxed out and so far, it was a very unnecessary $220 purchase (refer to system specs for full specs on my graphics and whatnot).

on a side note, some of you might notice that i'm running windows 7 professional as opposed to the RC. i have an MSDN account and got early access to the final version. i thought it would be important to include that in this as i'm sure there's been changes from the RC to the final version and i want to be sure i get the right results.

Mirrorboy, welcome to the forums.

No need to wait for Asus to put up the drivers (all they do is re-package the reference driver with their name in it someplace), just get them directly from Nvidia,

NVIDIA DRIVERS 15.49 WHQL

It also includes a video driver, but you can opt to install it or not just by doing a custom install and unchecking it. I would also recommend not installing the "Network Management Tools (v73.16) "Sedona"", have yet to ever hear anything good about it.

i installed that already. i had a lot of trouble getting my computer to detect both my GPUs, so i have a lot of nVidia drivers on my computer and none of them fixed the problem. someone i know had told me that my graphics card might not be powerful enough to work with my processor and is causing the lag. i'm running an EVGA GeForce 8600 GT with 256MB RAM and i plan on using SLI when i get the ASUS SLI drivers. but yea, i tried that and it didn't do anything. i'm hoping SLI will solve this.

By that I assume you mean you are using (or trying to) both the onboard video and the 8600GT. If so have you tried it with the onboard disabled to see if that is what is causing the problem?

so i have a lot of nVidia drivers on my computer

I don't normally recommend it but you may want to give this,

Guru3D - Driver Sweeper (no installer) download from Guru3D.com

a try. If you do only remove the video drivers. Only other way to clean all the other drivers out is a fresh Windows install (can do it manually, but not worth the effort).

i'm running an EVGA GeForce 8600 GT with 256MB RAM and i plan on using SLI

If you are planning on doing that with the 8600GT, do yourself a favor and don't. Unless you can get a second one dirt cheap, there are newer cards (both ATI and Nvidia) that are faster than 2x8600GT in SLI.

when i get the ASUS SLI drivers.

Why? Asus doesn't write the drivers, all they do is take the Nvidia reference driver and modify the INF so that it shows Asus' name in the control panel(s). They are still Nvidia drivers, just get them directly from Nvidia.

alright, in order:

1) i got my computer to detect both, now i'm just waiting for the SLI drivers.

2) i have the correct drivers installed, i just meant i have a lot of driver installers saved on my computer for different things.

3) my motherboard only has 1 PCI-E slot and i have 1 8600GT. my goal is to use SLI with the PCI-E 8600 GT and the onboard 8200 chipset.

4) the drivers are on my installation DVD, but they don't work with Win7. so i talked to an ASUS tech who told me that 7 drivers are coming out on the 22nd and that will give me what i need. i need motherboard drivers and since ASUS is my motherboard, i need their drivers. i know what you're saying about nVidia making the drivers and ASUS putting their name on it, but i downloaded something from nVidia under the heading of motherboard drivers, but they didn't give me SLI which is on my driver DVD but won't work since i'm running 7. *whew* that was one helluva rant.

What you are looking at is Hybrid SLI (according to your motherboard manual) and not SLI. Is your 8600GT even Hybrid SLI compatible? From looking around most of them from what I can see aren't,

Hybrid SLI is also available on desktop Motherboards and PCs with PCI-E discrete video cards. nVidia claims that twice the performance can be achieved with a Hybrid SLI capable IGP motherboard and a GeForce 8400 GS video card.[11][12]
On November 5, 2008 in Microsoft’s Guidelines for Graphics in Windows 7 document, Microsoft stated that Windows 7 will not offer native support for hybrid graphics systems. Microsoft added the reason for the decision saying that hybrid graphics systems ‘can be unstable and provide a poor user experience,’ and that it would ‘strongly discourage system manufacturers from shipping such systems.’ Microsoft also added that ‘such systems require a reboot to switch between GPUs.’[13]
On desktop systems, the motherboard chipsets nForce 720a, 730a, 750a SLI and 780a SLI and the motherboard GPUs GeForce 8100, 8200, 8300 and 9300 support Hybrid SLI (GeForce Boost and HybridPower). The GPUs GeForce 8400 GS and 8500 GT support GeForce Boost, the GPUs 9800 GT, 9800 GTX, 9800 GTX+ 9800 GX2, GTX 260 and GTX 280 support HybridPower.[14]

the graphics card box SLI Ready and the card has the connector pin. in fact, every graphics card i've looked at just says SLI Ready. and ASUS said there will be SLI drivers once the windows 7 release date hits. this gets quite confusing after a while because i've talked to an ASUS tech who said it can be done, a nVidia tech who said it can't be done, and an intense system builder i know who said something that i can't even remember. but how does this confusing conversation help my lag?

Like I said, you're confusing SLI with Hybrid SLI. SLI is two cards of the same chip and specs, Hybrid SLI is using the onboard with a compatible card (and does not use the SLI connector on the card, it is all handled by a setting in the bios).

If your card works you will probably see little to no performance increase. If used with a faster card (9800GT and up), there will be zero performance increase, and the benefit would come from running your monitor on the onboard to use less power.

but how does this confusing conversation help my lag?

As I said previously, start with uninstalling all Nvidia video drivers and run DriverSweeper (in safe mode) to get rid of the remnants, then try again.

Also what game(s)?

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh so that's the difference between the 2. no matter what explanation i heard, it didn't make sense. but now i finally get it. funny you should mention 9800GT. the nvidia tech i talked to say it would work with Hybrid SLI with my motherboard and i've been considering buying one. and even if it doesn't work with hybrid SLI, it still has more power than what i already have. and i've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and it didn't work. as far as what games, it's nearly every game i have. Unreal Tournament 3, Halo 2 Vista, Bioshock, The Orange Box...i think the only one i've played that worked was Halo 1 (and there was still a little lag on it). just to throw this into the mix, all these games worked on my old hardware, with the exception of UT3 and Bioshock. UT3 because i didn't have enough memory to run it on 7 and Bioshock because i just got that and never tried it on my old stuff. here's what i used to have:

-AMD Athlon 64 2.4GHz
-1.5 DDR RAM
-EVGA GeForce 8600GT
-some microstar motherboard that i can't remember now

i find it odd that i'm getting this lag with the more powerful hardware and the only thing i can think of is lack of proper drivers for the new hardware (with the exception of graphics drivers because i've done nVidia updates numerous times and i have the latest drivers).
