7077 most responsive and stable yet (most unlike vista)

I agree with the best build so far for driver support and stability. Some programs like my newer version of Symantec will not install yet but my older 10.2 version works just great and cannot get the AI Suite for Asus to install, but all and all about every other program I use on my Vista system will run just fine on this version of Windows 7 . I to cannot wait for a chance to buy the final version

sandman, download the latest Asus AI Suite from Asus, ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-
unzip it, open and right click on the setup application file, click on troubleshoot compatibilty, dont click on recommended settings, but the 'troubleshoot program' button, then click on 'worked on previous versions of Windows' or something. Choose the 'Vista' option, and install. Follow prompts. Works 100% on my 7077 64bit.

OK, I see you are on 32bit. Let me install it on my 32 bit, and then I'll come back to you.

On the 32bit you have to click on 'install using recommended settings', and it installs without any problems! Works fine, no problems!!

7077 is incredibly stable and fast. I run it exclusively on both my HP laptop and Gateway desktop. It puts Vista and XP to shame.

Hi all
Wasn't implying that W7 was no good -- I certainly intend to use it.

I specified that with the hardware I was using build 7077 X-64 was much poorer than previous builds -- not that W7 was no good.

I also specified very clearly that YMMV -- wiith all these builds different hardware will certainly play a significant role.

At this late stage before RC I do assume that most of the "Kernel" type bugs or major flaws with the OS have been fixed and it's probably mainly hardware issues now.

I didn't imply that VISTA SP2 was actually better than W7 either -- just that again on that particular laptop Vista SP2 performs better than build 7077. Previous builds of W7 on that laptop worked fine -- all clean installs with SAME applications running.

On some hardware build 7077 might fly.

There are certainly some issues with the Video drivers and chipsets -- Microsoft, nVidia and Intel IMO need to do some final wrapping up to finalize RC1 which is possiby why the ("speculated") release date has been moved back from early April to mid - end of May.

I'm downloading another ISO from a different source just in case I got a "corrupted build" -- I didn't like that incessant Disk activity problem.

Should have it in around 20 mins now --got a decent download speed -- I don't normally use some of the "alternative" sites but the provenance of the build (as well as SHA1 and MDsum check out OK).

Thanks Siggi for Demonid invite -- never used this before so I'll see.

Cheers and happy Easter all.

I have an Asus A7N8X-Deluxe E board with nForce 2 chipset that I am testing on. None of the builds will provide Audio for the onboard audio. Looking in Device manager, the hardware is working properly and drivers are all installed... but no sound.

I have to put 7077 on it, but my expectation is the same. :(

OK, having installed more things and rebooted, all of a sudden my WU is working just fine - perhaps it was simply an error on M$ part?

At any rate, all seems well now.

jasqid, download the drivers from the manufacter's site for the audio card.

I have an nForce4 card, and it has nVidia audio, but MS and "UnknownDevices" detects it as RealTek AC'07. I downloaded the drivers for that from RealTek's site, the Vista64 ones. They were release just a few days ago. They work fine.
