7201 - Those running it, what's new?

Is It worth upgrading?
Im Sick of doing fresh installs, and reinstalling my programs

Your specs say you're on the RC and if it's not broke dont fix it.
There isn't a whole lot new and if you have all your programs and most importantly all your drivers i say stick with what you got

Totally up to you....I just finished doing an upgrade from 7137 to 7201....about 1 hr 30 minutes in total.
Start time is a bit better from press of the button to password prompt is now 47 seconds vs 62 for 7137. Shutdown is the same....22 seconds.

It's very much worth installing. You will notice a real difference.
Problem is that already there is talk of another leak on the 19th of this month.
This way madness lies.
I've done 5 fresh installs and 2 upgrades in as many weeks.
I've quite gotten into it but I can't remember what I use to use my computer for.

If I were you I'd install it immediately but I'm not in full control of myself so hey!

Cheers, john :roflmao:
Totally agree with you.:)

that sounds pretty nice.
So far I am pretty impressed....it certainly feels quicker....even down to the opening of Web pages...refreshes etc.
It doesn't come down to a "new install" either as it was an upgrade.

Me to - sort of

Hey Johny
This way madness lies.
I've done 5 fresh installs and 2 upgrades in as many weeks.
I've quite gotten into it but I can't remember what I use to use my computer for.

If I were you I'd install it immediately but I'm not in full control of myself so hey!

Cheers, john :roflmao:
I have installed 8 different Windows 7 versions in both the x86 and the x64 platforms on 5 different computers from the netbook - laptops and Desktops from old to new (P4 to C2Q) but I do know what I use them for, TESTING only :geek::roflmao::roflmao:.

I have found many bugs and instability issues from mainly the upgrade process, but some from the fresh install as well. And more than 90% of the problems that I have debugged have been related to "VISTA_DRIVER_ID's".

I really hope that MS will fix the driver issues and stability problems before the final RTM release, Otherwise I will not buy my copies till they are stable.
My work requires a very stable OS (my Workhorse is Win XP x64) on my Big Box.
Otherwise, I will stick to Win XP.

sincerely
LarryLaser

i think you'll find that the main differences are under the hood. there are no ui changes. better driver support etc. it runs quicker; start up and shut down times improved.

I did an upgrade install from 7137 to 7201. I have over 50 apps installed. Upgrade went pretty flawless. Had to reboot a few times after it was done and reinstall firewall to resolve a few minor issues, but that was about it. It's running FANTASTIC now. Well worth doing the upgrade on these intermediate builds, imo. I'll clean install the final RTM, however.

Agree +1 I upgraded from 7100 x64 to 7201 x64, flawless. I removed Avast and Mbam before starting upgrade. Upgrade ran compatibility and told me to restart my pc. Did that and went back started upgrade path again. Smooth during a few restarts I did see the click any key to boot from CD. Ignored that and watched setup do its thing. I reinstalled Avast and Mbam still no problems. Only thing I have found that changed is the font size in a notepad file that I have in quick launch tool bar. And of course the watermark! lm

build 7201 won't let me play my brand new game, The Chronicles of Riddick - Assault on Dark Athena. It says, that "Tages" is not supported in this version of Windows, and then direct me to Tages webpage to download an update. I can't find any upgrate to download though, so unless I want to find the game in a piracy-way with no copy-protection, I can't play the game.
Back to 7100 :(

Anybody got a game up and running that is copyprotected by "Tages"?
