Solved 8th Gen intel cpu for win 7

So I've bought 3 z370 boards and am researching processors, but I'm not sure which one to get.

2 of the boards are Asus TUF z370 gaming plus (8th gen only) and the other is an Asus Strix z370-H (I may try win 10 on this board as an experiement, but want the option of Win 7). The CPU support list for both boards are the same. For the 8th gen only TUF boards,the CPU list starts at Celeron and goes up to i9.


Given that i9 is 9th gen, going by the list cold be problematic. I assume that Gen 8 only encompasses the core i8 series (which seem to be very hard to find)?


The core i5-8x seem to be around. Is that as good as it gets for Gen 8?



I'm looking for high end, but am unsure given the conflicted cpu list. What range of cpus should I be looking for?

As you have already bought the motherboard(s), then the most compliant thing to do is to install Windows 10 on them, and perhaps run Windows 7 as a Virtual Machine, within Windows 10 Environment.

Official support for Windows 7 and 8.1 machines runs out after 6th Gen (Skylake) processors. Meaning 6th Gen computers are officially the last computers supported by Microsoft, for Windows 7 and 8.1 Operating Systems.

HI iko22. There are threads in these forums about installing onto gen 8 boards, and it seems many do well.



Also, as to CPU, problem solved. Although I thought I might spring for the i7-8700K, it was over $400. It's more than I need anyway, so i ended up getting a couple of the i5-8600K chips. Finding RAM was an adventure, but I think I'm set as far as board, cpu and RAM are concerned. Thanks for your input.

Z MB can allow overclock and a i5-8600K also allow overclock.
For the memory, it also allow Extreme Memory Profile (XMP) memory modules. I have used GSkill and I'm glad with them.

But no hyperthreading. I use G.Skill too, and have for years. No problems and is what I have ordered for these new boards, but supplies seem to be running short, at least for these TUF z370s.

Hyperthreading depends on the CPU. I think nowadays only i7 and up has it.
