90% cpu usage after AMD chipset update

Since I have all SATA HDDs now, I recently switched to AHCI. Following this I started to get a lot of keyboard lag in some programs. This seemed to be linked to the Microsoft AHCI drivers, so I updated to the latest from AMD.

Now the keyboard lag is gone, but one of my cpu cores is always running near maximum, which means slowdown in some other programs. Any ideas?

Well; since you only have 4gb ram; its possible that the small amount of ram is not ample enough for it to run your setup efficiently. I would try closing any programs you know you dont need running(including background programs and services) and see if it helps any. Also; just a thought here; if you can; i would up the amount of ram you have to 8gb if you have the funds etc to do so as it would probably help quite a bit as there will be more available ram for system use.

I d/l Latency Monitor (free from Resplendence) at it points to storport.sys - seems to be a Microsoft driver for RAID? Except I'm not RAIDing.

Thanks Matts; however before updating to AHCI and the latest chipset drivers the system was running just fine with 4GB. Second, not sure why a RAM deficiency would cause a single core to run at full throttle at idle (with only a browser and Task Manager open).

I'm not understanding AMD.

Hmm - this seems to be a moving target. On reboot the drivers with the highest interrupts is now dxgkrnl.sys which is the DirectX driver. Gah!

Mine looks just like your attachment - except there are no entries in the Global debug settings.

I do not understand your reference to AMD and AHCI.
You have a Gigabyte motherboard.

I do not understand your reference to AMD.
You have a Gigabyte motherboard.

I went through the routine in the tutorial a couple of weeks ago.

Device Manager does not indicate anything there is amiss (all the HDDs are detected and appear to be running in SATA mode. Boot is normal - SATA drives detected as they appear in the BIOS, and all the drives function normally.

I updated drivers (through ATI Catalyst) because the mobo uses an AMD southbridge chipset.

I have never heard of such a thing. I always use the motherboard bios for such things. Then again I quite using AMD years ago.

Did you installed Windows 7 update KB3004394?
If so did the problem start before or after that update?

As far as I know AHCI is only updateable through the motherboard bios.

This update not installed.

As far as I know AHCI is only updateable through the motherboard bios.

As you know from the tutorial: you switch it on from the BIOS, but the chipset drivers get installed after the OS.

I see you tried those drivers initially, but reverting the drivers worked for me.
Spent an hour trying to figure this out earlier today, after installing the Catalyst Omega chipset drivers on my 760G mobo + FX6300.

Problem went away when I reverted to Microsoft's AHCI drivers. Back to ~0.1% interrupts periodically instead of ~11% constantly.
