9800gt+9400gt physx

hey guys, will an additional 9400gt provide good physx with my current 9800gt in Batman: Arkham Asylum

Are you talking about using SLI? I don't believe that you can SLI two different graphics cards.

If you want to use SLI you need to purchase the exact same graphics card that you have now and install that. You also need an SLI capable motherboard.

IMO, You're much better off just getting a new card.

He doesn't mean SLI. He's talking about using a 9400GT as a dedicated Physx card.

I don't think you'd see that much difference in Arkham Asylum, as the recommended card for Phyxs in Batman is a 9800GTX, so I think a 9400GT might struggle a bit. If you have a spare 9400GT lying around, then you can always try yourself.

No it won't, the 9400 GT isn't supported for Physx anymore,

yeah, that's what I meant, i'll try it once I get the time, but I have another question, is running the 9800gt at pci-e x8 ok?

The 9800 GT is one of my favorite graphic cards of all time. I don`t think you will see any problems with the card at 8x. I have used one as a dedicated PhysX card in a 8x slot and it worked fine.

ok, i tested it, and it seems to run with less lag than the 9800gt alone, and luckly the 9800gt is running at x16, while the 9400gt is running at x4, doesn't the i5 750's pci-e controller support a max band of x16?

edit: is it worth the extra power running the 9400gt?

I'm not sure how it works without reading up on it properly, but most P55 motherboards will work that way and keep the first PCI-E slot at x16 and run the second PCI-E slot at x4 if a physx card is put in or something. Then if you add SLI, both slots will be set to x8, so it seems to be running as it should for you. (More expensive P55 boards can run at x16/x16, but for the price of them plus the CPU, you might as well go for an x58 + i7).

And it's up to you really. I doubt it'll be using that much more power being a relatively low power card and just sitting there as a physx card, so it's whether you feel you benefit enough from that bit of extra performance in Batman and other Physx games.
