A basic question about access rights

After several months of Windows 7's working pretty well on my new computer, I now am getting a raft of "access denied" notices. Since I'm the owner of the computer and the only one who uses it, and the one who sent money to Redmond for the OS, this sort of ruffles my feathers.

Somehow I have ended up with *two* choices when the computer starts--an account name that I created (call it "me") and the one that was there when the computer was delivered with Win 7 installed ("them"). I have gone into Properties for both accounts and tried to open access to everyone who uses the computer (meaning me), but I still get "Access denied" when trying to open such files as "C:/Users/"them" (or "me")/Application Data. But the program still says "Access denied." At one point it offered a way to change "Access denied," and when I tried it, it said "Access denied." Catch-22 lives on.

I have the 64-bit version of Windows 7, with SP 1.

To top everything off, I would like very much to get rid of the "them" choice at startup and use only the one I designated. For one thing, the "them" name is idiotic (AMDMULTI). I'd sure appreciate some help, short of a reformat.

Welcome, Fred!

Concerning sharing access - I learned not long ago that you must not only make the adjustments in the "sharing" tab when you go to "properties", but also check the permissions in the "security" tab. Make sure that group or username "everyone" has full control in the security options tab. This applied to access to other folders & drives - I assume you can do it with user accounts. I could be wrong.

As far as the other user account - go to Control Panel > User Accounts and delete the AMDMULTI account.
