I have a Lappy W7 x64 Dell. The BSOD error is 0x0000007b.I do not want to reinstall at any cost as I have a program on it - My digital diary and have practically written my heart in it.

Safe mode fails at classpnp.sys, tried replacing but no avail. When i did the startup repair, it couldn't fix it.I tried every other windows repair option.
I tried booting with many boot cds and found that most of them have trouble detecting all my partitions.
That made me type a command I found on the web, in cmd of windows repair, and indeed it could only detect the recovery partition.

I took a backup of the c drive using acronis, it can detect all partitions correctly. I hope I can boot it using Vbox, but that is highly unlikely.

And I ran testdisk using TRK, which did report some error on the partitions. I have a feeling that the error may have to do with some partition issue, i tried playing with it once or twice with Easeus Partition Manager.

Im writing post this thru a P4 PC, so testing anything is impossile for that Acronis drive, though I was able to mount and view the content. The only thing left for me to do is a give a shot to that Backup at office in Vbox.

I have to at any cost get this Windows booting again.I need get that those entries on the diary somehow.
I just need help in fixing it.

Is it even possible to get out of this mess? Get the PC booting again ?

I may not be available at times because of my office and the time difference in USA and India. But guys, please help me !

Welcome to Seven Forums virajk.

You error, 0X7b is Inaccessible Boot Device. I would recommend you immediately use what you could see content with and copy the data to another, external drive. Get on if you don't have one. I think you will have to replace your hard drive.

You may be able to use Linux and save your data, which can boot from a CD/DVD or flash drive.

Other people have encountered the same error as mine with the fix I mentioned and have successfully restored their bootloader with the recovery disk. Ill do the same (need to get an x64 w7 disk, will take time), however if that does not work how do I proceed ?

Is there any other way to fix the bootloader. seems like my situation has gone worse than the original problem.

Please someone guide me through this problem !

Recovery disk may work, or not. Otherwise.....get to your data anyway possible, then try fixing the thing.

I'll say it more simply. Your Drive Is Dying, Rescue Your Data As Suggested Or Lose, Lose, Lose it forever. Go buy a new drive.

From your descriptions your current drive may never boot again, it will get worse so nothing will be able to read/see it.

Thanks, but I've seen a many other users facing this issue, the same error code and resolving it.I dont think the drive is dying, anyways isn't there a single person in this forum who has come across this error, it is so common on google but the solutions are very vague !

Guys I'm desperate !

I don't understand. What part of backup your data do you not understand? You should be doing that anyway. If your drive is failing you will have your diary. If you can fix the drive, you will have a backup of your data as you should anyway. But, the most important thing you said to you was to save your data. That's what you are refusing to do. Even if you can repair the drive, most likely you are going to have to erase it, and lose your data. Your first priority should be backup your data. Once that is done, maybe you can save the drive, maybe you can't, but you will have the data that you say is important.

Hello Viraj.

I think what Britton30 suggested it a good thing to try. You need to do it.

Stop 0x7B with boot failure is a bit serious. Check it that the BIOS is detecting the Hdd or not. Download windows defender offline, burn it in a blank disc and do a full scan.

Download partition wizard bootable cd. Boot from it. Upload a camera snap of the partition table as shown in partition wizard.

May be we may be able to get some info from these.

Yes I will backup my DATA asap and get back.Sorry about that, but Im too preoccupied with this diary thing.

The hard disk is detectable and accessible via boot cds, I even took a backup of C using Acronis earlier , but it does not convert to vhd using Acronis true image converter or VmWare Converter, so I cannot even make an attempt to boot it.

But besides that, I have screwed my bootlaoder while trying to use that fix I mentioned . Can it be fixed with a Win 7 x64 boot disk.

I will use partition wizard bootable cd and upload the snapshot. I think the partition system is screwed thats why some boot cds have problem detecting all partitions.

But in any case, is it even remotely possible to boot that windows again, however it may be - VBox/Vmware or maybe on the lappy itself ?

I have Lucid Puppy, Ophcrack, TRK, Debian. Also Acronis True Image. In either case how would I get the partition info ?

Ill give WDO a try, but then what about the bootloader.

Without the bootloader thing, how do I proceed, since the bootloader is not proper.

And lastly if its a partition consistency error, how do I fix it. I have TRK and system Rescue CD !

If puppy loads, let us see the gparted screen. We need to see the numder of partituons, the active flag, and the space occupied.

I am suggesting wdo coz the bootloader may be disturbed by a so called bootkit, too.

If these two fails, and you at last forced to do a clean install, dont worry. We can get the entire previous partition table restored, provided there is enough empty space to recover the entire previous data... and that is only why the present partition table is so necessary to us.

Within 3 hours I will be back home, and then I will see your reply and will suggest the next steps.

Arc, I had posted in the begining of the thread that I had messed up using some commands I found in the link (check my quote). It is after issuing these commands that I couldn't boot at all, the commands somehow ruined the bootloader config (earlier I could at least boot into recovery), shows Winload.exe is corrupt or missing.

How do I restore this boot loader.

Ok I tried this fix. :Solution: STOP Error 0x0000007b (0xfffff880009a98e8 0xffffffffc000000d 0×0000000000000000…) | Triple-S Computers Blog – Louisville, KY computer repair specialist

My repair tool indeed did not identify the windows installation, but now my pc simply does not boot. Dies on the first screen. Damn Me !

I am suggesting wdo coz the bootloader may be disturbed by a so called bootkit, too.

For the time being, forget about trying to get the disk to boot again. You've already said that the data stored on it is important to you, so you should really be concentrating on being able to retrieve and save as much of this data as possible. If the drive is damaged, every time you write to it or try to boot from it will potentially reduce the possibility of recovering your data. You need to boot your system using a live Linux disc, which should allow you to access your drive so that you can copy the data off it. Only once you have copied all the data that can be copied (note that this might or might not be all of it), can you consider trying to restore full functionality to the disk (if that is possible).

Yes but the data is the diary Ive been writing, the sofware name -My Digital Diary and that data is only accessible by running that program.

I did access the C_drive - copy the contents of My Digital Diary using Acronis True Image from one pc to another. I installed a fresh version of My Digital Diary on another PC, overwrote the contents with the ones backedup in Program Files - but that diary Data could not be retrieved, only the login account was copied (the s/w has a login system) and I was only able to login.
