I'm getting my feet wet with this cert. Was a small computer technician in the A.F. working on 8088s, 286,386,486s yeeeears ago. Been a software/internet technician for multiple clients and find myself always falling back to pc/software work.

So I might as well bite the bullet and commit to this. I have read that A+ and Net+ are good starters. Also I've been trying to seek out online A+ tutorials/information/practice exams.

Looks like Professor Messer and ProProfs are good free resources.

Anyone know of any other places to look?

Be glad you're taking it this year since next year, the CompTIA certs expire after 2 years. Currently, they are lifetime.

These pdfs tells you of all the objectives in the test, some of which were not on the cert when I took it.

You took the new test? Tell me how was it. Was it complicated? Easy?

No, I did not take the most recent cert. However, those pdfs I found under my earlier post do indicate what's on it.

I would look for as many practice exams online for the 2009 cert as possible, look for books on the test if I where you. :)

When I took it about 1 1/2 years ago, it had just been changed. They eliminated some of the old style questions (mostly relating to older windows versions, setting up IRQ's, etc.)

When you arrive at the test center (get there 15 mins early), you will have 90 minutes to answer 100 questions. You will not be allowed to bring anything into the room with you and in most cases, they are watching you with a camera (it seems a bit intimidating, but don't let it bother you)

There are 3 different tests to choose from, the Depot, the technician and remote support. Most people choose the technician.

The test covers basic computer knowledge of the parts, troubleshooting in various areas (printers included with a couple printer troubleshooting questions) and several questions (on mine at least) in how to handle problem users.

I remember one that said "You've been called to replace a KB that a user has spilled coffee on for the 3rd time in a week. What should you say to him?". Out of the 4 responses the correct one was "I can't guarantee this will work if you don't take care of it"...or something along that line

This isn't too hard of a test. But they are known to throw a few curves from time to time so be ready for anything. The Network+ was a bit rough and believe it or not, they actually had a couple questions relating to Novel 4. The Security+ had a few curves in it too.

I wish you good luck. Do a Google search and find all the practice tests you can.
