Hi

Just wondered if anyone had any pointers really i am trying the 32bit version of 7 on my laptop i have been pottering around on it since i got it last week, most things i use installed so far work fine and tbh i am impressed up to this point.

However and here's the question the only pc i have running Vista is my main gaming rig which runs Vista 64-Bit and i was wondering weather its worth getting rid of that to run Windows 7 64bit instead, i had a look around google to see if i could get an idea but not had much look really was just wondering what anyone thought:)

Oh and i not really bothed about duel booting.

I will note the spec's down of my main rig incase anyone is aware od any issues

24inch Monitor (had to res issues in beta with this)
Q9450 @3.20Ghz
4GB Mem
2x 9800GX2 in Quad SLI
Creative Soundblaster X FI Sound Card (on a side note this has NEVER run right on Vista with quad sli on it pops crackes and drags on the FPS)
2x 750GB Drives in Raid-0

Thanks for any help:)

Hi Vapo, Welcome to forum,

I would hold onto Vista for the simple reason Windows Seven is a RC and you will not be able to upgrade from it once the RTM is out. No matter what, you'll have to revert back to vista or buy windows seven and do a Clean ReInstall. If anything, I would install a fresh copy of the 64 bit in place of the 32 bit Seven just to test it.

It seems many people aren't planning ahead far enough or don't realize they won't be able to keep a fully working RC on there PC. According to ms, user's will not be able to use a RTM license key or upgrade to RTM from the RC. A clean install is in everybody's future.

YOu are correct that you wont be able to use the RC keys in the final RTM but you wont need to temporarilly go back to vista as RC expires on 02/03/2010 and Windows 7 will be released before then.

My recommendation would be to try out 64-bit rc (not any of the later leaks) and try it out while its free.

^This.

If you don't want to dual boot, then just make a backup image of Vista so that you can restore it later if you want.

Thanks for the responses and the welcome:)

It is right that if i tried it out and it was stable i would not go back to Vista i would use the RC till it expires then i would but 7 so.

I will have abit more of a think but i reckon i will give it ago thankfully the only thing on the rig is programs as all data is held on my server.

Thanks for the help any other comments welcome:)

trying out win 7 now means be prepared for the release date so when you install the final version, you already know "what, where, why" and how to use it.
