I am on my tablet because I can't get this Mediatek USB Wi-Fi stick working on my new Dell Precision 390 tower OS Win7 Home 32bit, The driver disk has Windows drivers for MTK and a Ralink. I can't get eather driver to work. I have had it working in the past. So right now I can't connect the tower to my router or the internet. Do I need to get a new USB Wi-Fi stick?

PS: on the USB Wi-Fi stick is stamped 802.11n

The gateway laptop model MD2614U died because a voltage regulator on the motherboard went poof. The Gateway laptop has been scraped.
I finely found out why the USB Wi-Fi stick isn't working. The front USB ports on the tower are dead. The USB ports in the back work just fine. I will open up the tower in the morning and look at it while the turkey is cooking.

Maybe I'm missing something but what does this stick have to do with connecting your router to your computer? Are you using a modem from a cable company? What is the model number for the stick?

The stick had everything to do with connecting the tower to the router-internet. The connection to the router is wireless. It would be to long of a run for a lan cable from the living room to my bedroom. But now it is a mute point. The power supply in the tower had died. All that I have left until I get my SSDI direct deposit on Dec 3rd is my Android tablet.
By the way, before the tower kicked the bucket I got the wi-fi stick working. The wi-fi stick is a cheap chinese knockoff with no name or model number. And yes my ISP is Charter cable tv.

PS: my apt building was built in the late 70s, before there was such a thing as internet. So there is no lan cables in the walls.

I see. I guess the router is connected to a cable modem in your LR. I also have Charter, aka Spectrum.

Hope you get things working again soon.
