Hello,

I have a user that is running Windows 7 Enterprise 32-bit, when she tries to use Windows Remote Assistance she always gets this error at the point where you select the Invite method, "A problem occurred, A problem occurred that might prevent Remote Assistance from working. Try again, or contact your system administrator."

I've check all the standard stuff, she does have "Allow remote assistance connections to this computer" checked, "Allow this computer to be controlled remotely" is also check. She is the only one in the department that is having this problem. Any ideas would be greatl apprciated!

Thanks!

R.

Not a solution, but you can use a workaround. CROSSLOOP or TEAMVIEWER

Thanks Kaktussoft, I've been considering those two options if I can't find a fix for Remote Assistance. Thanks for the info though!

My solution

Symptoms:
- Microsoft Remote Assistance (msra) says "a problem occurred"
- using a newly created user account, MSRA works fine

I traced this down using process explorer or process monitor, and it seems to have something to do with some RSA key file that is somehow "in the way".

Please check the directory

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\microsoft\Crypto\RSA\

If you find it contains multiple subdirectories, you may want to try to rename the RSA directory to RSA.bak. Then start msra. Voila. I tried this on two different machines with this issue, and it worked on both.

You should not delete RSA.bak (does not take much space, and who knows which other keys might be stored in there). If some application seems not to work due to missing keys, you might want to try to rename RSA.bak back to RSA.
