A program has stopped working

Good evening,

I've played a silly little game called Stronghold Kingdoms for almost a month, and today I rebooted my system and it was hanging at the Windows screen. (The "windows" didn't actually float in as they normally do) So the system tried to do a startup repair and it took almost an hour and went nowhere... So I did a hard shut down and rebooted. The computer is running normally again, I have no issues playing Skyrim or WoW or *anything* else...but I can't rebuild my castle in Stronghold Kingdoms because when I run it, it says "Stronghold Kingdoms has stopped working A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the progam. [Close the Program] <----that's the only button I can click :P

I've uninstalled the game and re-downloaded/reinstalled it several times. I've also tried running in through Steam -which just..can't happen. SHK thinks Steam is offline constantly, so only the SHK standalone client works for me.

This makes me fairly sad, because I like sending out my little scouts and armies when I don't feel like shooting arrows into people's knees in Skyrim or farming free epics from little boxes in WoW.

I've posted on the support forums in SHK, but my searching for more info has been fruitless, and I don't feel particularly confident that Firefly studios will be able to resolve my issue, so I'm posting here as well...

Any thoughts please? :)

sounds like something somehow got corrupted. Have you tried doing a sfc /scannow? If not i would try that to make sure there are no errors. i might also consider trying to do a system restore which might restore functionality. Start, programs, accessories, then to system tools and click system restore and select a date before this issue started happening. if that doesnt work then post back and we can go from there.

Sorry I slacked. I did SFC /scannow and CHKDSK and both came up clean.

Forgot to mention that. :)

I also would gladly do a System Restore but there are only 7-8 restore points in my list (Even if I select "Show more restore points" at the bottom, and they're all from after so-called 'crash' :P

They're all from after 7 o'clock today, which is roughly when it occurred. They appear to have been created each time I installed SHK again (after rebooting/uninstalling it) it would install Direct X over again, so it made a restore point each time.

[*Edit* I'm letting SAS run, need to head to bed tonight, but I'll check in again soon. Thanks for your time and efforts. ]
Just ran it, it didn't take long to scan, did fine two registry keys and a firefox file which I'm not entirely sure I should've 'cleaned' but I did anyway.

Thanks for your suggestions thusfar, I'm all 'ears', as it were :)

Never heard of superantispyware, that's a new one .. lmao Doing that one now, only ran ADWcleaner

Morning, posting before I head to work.

SAS came up clean, and I did a .net framework repair since I found that suggestion elsewhere.

The program still won't load.

I resolved it! So happy. ;)

I ran another round of Windows updates and allowed even the optional items to download. I still think it must've been a .net framework issue, because there were several of them in the optional list.

Thank you again for your time though, you were kind enough to try to help. It's people like you that make the internet worthwhile.

Sure thing man. No problem. I will try and help any way I can. That's what we are here for. If it still won't load I will try and do a search on it and see what comes up as results. It might not be til morning though.
