Solved a question about Cumulative security update for IE11:13-03-2018

Hello

I have just reinstalled two win7 pro x64 computers and i have installed all old updates.(I have a special thread about win-updates here in sevenforums.)
Now I'm only installing security only updates for windows. But when I saw that cumulative updates to IE11 came through WUC, I saw that they also contain other non-security related updates.

So now I wonder if I download this Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 11. 51,9MB (KB4089187) through Windows Update Catalog, are that to filled with non-security related updates, or is it only an security update?

And I wonder if I install the last one, does it contain all security updates from May 2016 to March 2018?

I think you might find the thread below very useful.
Only the first post is really important because it is upto date as of last month (February 2018).

Now there is only one question left.... Is KB4074736 to filled with a lot of non-security related updates, or is really an security only update?

Do you know which .NET security only updates need to be installed?
I have only 3.5.1 installed since I really don't have any use of it, but it may be good to have some version installed if any software needs it.

Do you know which .NET security only updates need to be installed?

I think I would definately install Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.1 (Offline Installer):

Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.1 (Offline Installer) for Windows 7 SP1.

For Windows 7 SP1 the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.1 is listed as an installed product under the Programs and Features item in the Control Panel.

I think you will probably have more than just the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 installed!

If you run the following CMD it will tell you ALL the versions of Microsoft .NET Framework that you have installed:

dir %windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework /AD

When I look in that directory, I only see up to 3.5
and during the installation of all updates, I refused the installation of version fourth and up.So it's only version 3.5.1

It was good with some energy in the stomach again. Now I can keep going for a few hours more.

now I remember.. I uninstalled 4x when I had run my factory recovery... i only kept 3.5.1.. Sorry my bad

Hi Marie, I'd say you're pretty safe with the IE cumulative updates and I definitely wouldn't skip those if you're choosing not to install the Windows cumulative rollups or you'll be missing the security updates for IE.

MS did slip in a Windows 10 upgrade nag message during the Windows 10 upgrade fiasco, but that was removed in a later update.

Hello to you all again.
I'm going to ask a question that's related to my thread start.

I have now installed KB4089187 and when I then run windows update I got an offer about KB3185319. It's a cumulative security update for IE11 dated 2016-09-13.
Can anyone explain to me why this one is offered when I have installed a newer cumulative security update?
Should not the new include all the old updates?

Hi Marie, have you tried to install it? I have occasionally had an older update offered. I had an old Windows security update from 2014 offered a couple of weeks ago. Not sure if configuration changes can cause it, but it can happen. If you try to install, it might throw up a message saying it's not applicable. Or it might just be installed and not be offered again.
