I feel stupid asking this question but i have been unable to find anything about it anywhere, on my screen shot you see the encryption which is grayed out and i was wondering how you can use this and what it does, does it add a password or what.. sorry for my annoyance

Thank you!

Ah, yes, unfortunately that feature is not available in Windows 7 Home Premium.

However, there are many free encryption programs available like AxCrypt that you could use instead.

TrueCrypt is another good alternative.

Has anybody actually installed and used Axcrypt? I have downloaded it along with all of the information on, both the author's and FAQs.

1) Is its use fairly straightforward?

2) Is it easy to uninstall?

3) Is 128-bit AES really sufficient these days?

Thanks,

Gerry

Hello Gerry,

Yes, it's easy to use from the context menu of files and folders. It's also easy to uninstall from Programs and Features like any other program.

If you would like stronger encryption, then TrueCrypt has 256-bit AES and is just as easy to use.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
