Hi all.

I have just done a ram update and have a query.

Motherboard is an Asus P7P55 LX

I have installed 16 gig of ram, in four, four gig sticks.
The ram is Corsair dual channel, and meant to be 1600 speed.
The only code I can see on the box is CMX8GX3M2A1600C9.

Now, its installed and running ok, but when the motherboard posts, I note it reports 16gig, at 1333, which is what the old chips were I removed.

Do I need to alter a Bios setting or something ?
I'm just confused why it reports it at the lower speed still of the old ram, not the increased speed of the new ram ?

Any thoughts, or am I missing something obvious with this ?

Thanks

The limitation is in your cpu which caps at a 1333 bus.
In your case the memory should be useful in overclocking for a higher stable overclock, but you aren't going to get the full 1600 by default.

Don't you have to enable XMP in the bios for the faster speeds to work without overclocking?

could also be the voltages. my corsair vengence 1866mhz ram only works at that speed on an asus board at 1.5v, default voltage is 1.4v and runs at 1333mhz. The manual for your board will clarify this.

Don't you have to enable XMP in the bios for the faster speeds to work without overclocking?
XMP only works while using two sticks of ram.

There is a setting in Bios though to set the ram speed to 1600.

Go here> ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS P7P55 LX

Select download tab> enter OS and download the manual if you don't have orginal.
It will tell you exactly how to set the RAM.
In the bios there will be 3 options 1066, 1330 and 1600.

Be warned setting it to 1600 will increase the volage from 1.5v to 1.65v which is not recommended by Intel.
Though every overclocker does it.
Just so you know.

Found the setting, altered, and it now reports 1600 on the post :D

Your comment Mike about it increasing the voltage to 1.65v ?
The Ram is specified at 1.65v, so should this be ok, or is it something to be concerned about ?

The system is running nice and stable at the moment with the alteration so I'm hoping all is ok.

Thanks again for your assistance, and I will mark the thread as solved.

The voltage is fine at 1.65 as far as the Ram is concerned. Intel prefers Ram voltage at 1.5v.

Something about excess CPU temperatures/voltage is harder on the CPU.
Keep the CPU properly cooled and you should be fine.
