"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing..."

I'm trying to install Windows 7 on this device which says it supports Windows 7: Gizmo 2 | GizmoSphere

Apparently their support is nonexistent so I'm forced to ask this here instead.

This is the error I'm getting which prevents me from continuing with the installation:

What does it mean exactly and what can be done?

As you can see from the link this is a single board PC like the Intel NUC and does not have any CD/DVD drive device.

The ISO was ''burned'' to a micro SD card with the official Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool and inserted to the device's micro SD card slot. And then again to a USB stick. Both give this error. Trying on my notebook and desktop I don't get that error.

You don't really say what type of hard drive you have connected to this board to install windows on

I would imagine the installer is not seeing the hdd to install on thus the driver message.

There is no HDD, only SD card and USB stick.

All I see is you've made 2 bootable devices to install win-7 with/ a sd card = "not sure how you managed that one" and a flash drive :/

That I know of you need to install it from the bootable media to something = another flash drive or traditional hdd or ssd connected to the sata on the board.

I did Google the mobo and read there is a sata to usb adaptor but what is the point really ?
If it connects to sata port on the mobo why not connect a real device such as a hdd or ssd to it :/

SSD adds weight to the device and will need to buy one.

It seems like Windows 7 just doesnt install on anything but SSD/HDD. I did try having another flash/SD plugged while installing. Maybe thats the case?

Win 7 has an embedded version, they have a free trial if you feel like tinkering,

No problem LBB I didn't see anything wrong with the post it was a good question worth reiterating

Just how much weight would a 2.5 hdd or ssd create = not much worth worrying about

But you are correct a device win-7 is installed on has to be connected to a sata port on the board not a usb = not easily and reliably anyway.

This board in question is really designed for Linux not windows.

No HDD or SSD ? Where do you expect to install windows ?

That message is always brought on by a bad burn to the installer, whether it be a usb stick, a dvd or a sd card.

Confirm the iso file and use this program to burn to stick, it never fails.

It comes with an embedded linux installed on the sd card and supports other embedded OS's so using the sd card is an option, just not the OS and the method compatible with the unit.,



It has an mSATA port for SSD's of that type but that doesn't seem to be on the OP's list of things they want.

The question now is simple:

Can you or can you not install Windows 7 on a USB stick?
If not, that explains it.

As for what OS this device supports, that's one of the pages where it mentions it (and it does state there, "including" the OSs listed, by no means a complete list). It's an x86 64 bit PC with a standard AMD APU, it should support any x86 OS technically.

Why does it emphasize embedded? I think that's what you need. If you want to try a regular version, by all means go ahead.

Windows to go is the only way I'm aware of installing an OS on a USB stick,

Windows 8 To Go - Setup on a USB Flash Drive or USB Disk

Embedded allows to customize the OS for embedded devices. Like changing the bootup screen or included programs.
Regular Windows does not allow such customizations, officially.

Try downloading the part files for Windows 7 embedded to your PC. I don't know what is wrong with their servers but it's usually very slow and fails half way through.

For the record I got a 120 GB mSATA but I still get that error. Again when using the same USB stick on my notebook it's fine.
Can I use the above tool to install from USB stick to an SSD like this?

As long as the ssd/ hdd is connect to a sata port and marked as active your flash media should be able to install to it,
