A simple program to change icons
Has anyone written a simple program to allow for changing program icons ion Windows 7? I set VLC as the default program for .iso files, and each one shows up at that stupid traffic cone. I want to choose a custom icon.
OS Windows 7 Final CPU Core 2 Quad Q9550
A custom icon for each iso? or to change the default icon that vlc sets the ico as?
Thanks,
Kukag

Hello Qtrim, and welcome to Seven Forums.
You can use the tutorial below to manually change the icons used for file extensions. I have not tried the program Types (yellow TIP box in tutorial) in Windows 7 yet, but it may work to make it easier to do.

Hope this helps,

You're welcome Qtrim. Thank you for verifying that the program still works in Windows 7.

The "NEW" website to obtain the free program mentioned in previous posts directly from the author - called "Types" - is here:
Types
It was formerly hosted on "sourceforge" but the author has apparently made some improvements to the application and removed it from open-source development.
As a convenience to anyone having a problem pulling up that URL, I will attempt to post a copy to a fresh post following this one as a file-attachment.
It can apparently be used to select a desired icon or custom icon, when you wish to associate a file type with a particular icon that is not the windows default, either within an .ico file or one of those embedded inside of an .exe or .dll file.
