I just saved my Oblivion disc image to my computer using Daemon Tools' Disc Imaging.
This will save the game disc from being scratched and other unpleasant things like that.

But a question came up:
Does it have any effect on my game performance if I play Oblivion by image mounting on Daemon Tools instead of playing the game with the actual disk?

Hi,

The biggest issue with Mounting anything is that is uses System Memory to load/unload files that are needed. As you have 8GB it shouldn't really be a problem but you can but try it and see if you notice any change in the performance of the game.

Thank you for your answer. I haven't myself noticed any change on the performance, but wanted an opinion of someone who knows better. I believe that my memory will be more than enough, because my current performance bottleneck seems to be my graphics card.

Hard disk read times are faster than optical drives so generally speaking methinks a game would load faster than from the iso. In any case virtual drives are faster than the physical drives for the same reason- they reside on the hard disk. having said that, the game dvd would likely cache the current level (or whatever its called in oblivion) to the hdd/ram so the performance boost may not be directly proportional to read speeds.
