About performance booster software

I've been using TuneUp Utilities since its 2008 version (now 2013) and it has a Turbo Mode among its components and tools. Turbo Mode is a kind of system performance booster for scenarios like heavy gaming and such.

Also there are these two I knew of recently: O&O CleverCache and RamDisk Plus.

I ask friends here who might have used or are using one of these two programs to kindly share their experience, so I (and others) can have enough user-based information to make a decision on purchasing.

They don't do anything. When you play your games they already receive the full capabilities of the machine. These programs are nothing more then snake oil.

Tests have shown that if these "tune up" programs do anything at all, the result such a small percentage, that it's negligible. In some instances they do more harm then good and can really mess up your PC...to the point of having to re-install everything.

I don't know about any official tests, but after years of real world experience and helping others in forums, they generally do not offer any noticeable difference and/or cause more problems than they are worth.

Was there anything specific you were wanting to tweak?

Notice the part where they say:

The last line reflects the experience that lots of folks have had using these kinds of utilities.

However ... that said, there are quite a few Positive reviews of this utility out there, so in the balance, it may do some good, after all.

Maximum PC just did a round up of various software applications such as these and their results mirroed what others are saying here. Keep the OS and drivers updated, don't have a lot of junk runing in the bakground, like IM programs, and enjoy your games.

lol I have Tuneup Utilities the only thing it is good for is to change boot screens and icon packages other then this it's a dud program lol

Turbo mode is a joke it is just a fancy gimmick

They are free and both work quiet well.

I've used TuneUp 2010 a few years back and got a good impression of it, but then downloaded the trial of 2012 some time ago and got somewhat disappointed. Problem was that it leaves a few services always running, monitoring or doing who nows what, without informing about them, which I don't like at all, it simply fells too invasive for a program that is supposed to run on demand.
Other than that, the tunning options and the ability to modify some hidden Windows settings is still great, and the improvements suggestions are nice too (don't expect miracles, but cleaning garbage out of the registry is always good).

Also I've tried some RamDisk software (DataRam, not the one you're linking, but I guess they're similar). They need even more knowledge to be used properly, and lots of RAM to spare, as they trade free memory for an ultrafast temporary "HD". It's sometimes good to put temp files and other working items.
No idea about the other.

In the end and after many years working with Windows, I came to the conclusion that the only 100% reliable way of speeding up the system (other than adding more hardware) is to fully reformat and cleanly reinstall Windows from scratch. Everything else just gives bits of improvement.
