Ok so i had windows xp on the c:/ drive. I then installed windows 7 on it's own drive. Now i am thinking of deleting the c:/ volume since it has no use anymore. My windows 7 volume is now a boot volume and my c:/ drive still says system. I deleted all the contents possible inside of it even system 32 and nothing bad happened but i have to override in the cmd to delete it sense it is a system drive. Will this effect my windows 7 booting? Thanks.

it also says override cause drive is in use....

Hello Dylanpieper, welcome to Seven Forums!

When you use the term "drive" do you mean a Hard Disk Drive (HDD) or a partition on a HDD?
Do you have 1 or 2 HDDs in the PC?

Partition Wizard : Use the Bootable CD

Then will you post a snip / screenshot of disk management so we can see what you have; have a look at the tutorial at the link bellow and post a shot of the whole disk management; in the start menu right click computer, manage, at the left pane click disk management.

Ok, just a better explanation:

I want to delete my old C:/ drive becasue i now have a new boot drive N:/ for Windows 7.

All i want to know if it is safe, it says it's a system drive and says "in use" although my boot (main) partition is N:/.

Windows can't boot from a logical partition, or so I've been told as I've never tried it myself.

Your boot files are on Win XP partition.
If you delete that partition Win 7 will NOT BOOT.

Thanks theog, I should have been more specific.

What I believe is, even if the boot files are moved/copied to the Windows 7 partition it will not boot from a logical partition

That is my unstanding of logical partitions.

As stated, you cannot recover the System MBR from C into N as long as it is a Logical Drive.

The solution is to boot free Partition Wizard bootable CD, right click on N to Modify>Covert to Primary partition, OK.

Then rightclick N to Modify>Set to Active, OK.

Now boot the WIn7 DVD Repair console or Repair CD, click through to Recovery Tools list to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots to write the MBR to N now that it is Primary marked Active.
When it starts up, you can consider also using PW from boot to Move N into space you create by deleting C and Resizing I from the left, or first resizing N smaller. This will put your OS in the preferred lower address.

Always back up your files and a System Image before doing any resizing operations, although PW has not failed in hundreds of these we have helped with here. Even should it fail, it will restart and begin the attempt again but you can eventually bail out at startup timeout and WIn7 will start. This is another reason it is a superior Disk Manager.

Could he perhaps create an image of the Win 7 partition and then restore that image to the C Drive?
