About to jump out a window!

Ok here it is. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit OS. I have Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars and it will NOT install! I have tried the compatability thing, I have disabled the UAC, and I have done two days of research in forums, EA Games, and HP. I dont know what the problem is, since others with 64 bit Windows 7 are playing TS 3 and having no issues. Oh yeah, I have also updated Direct X, Video Card Drivers, etc.....................

I am NOT buying a new PC or downgrading to XP/Vista

DSWALLS, we understand your frustation, we all have been there but, for your own benefit... when asking for help, more so if you need it fast, make sure you give as most pertinent information as possible.

Example: I have tried everything... if I am asking for help, would you know for a fact what I have tried?

Being said that, this is what I am going to recommend and it may or may not help at all.

I would go to the manufacturer of your video and audio driver and download their latest drivers. Uninstall first and install fresh copies of drivers.

Make sure you install the game Higher Admin Rights (right click file use "Run as Administrator")

Perhaps if you have time you can tell us what you have tried so others more capable can give you a few more pointers?

Having gone through the forums I have tried right clicking on the install.exe and do the whole compatability thing with Admin rights, copied all the files from the disc to a folder, and try to run as administrator, disabled the UAC, updated windows, tried to patch (which was rather dumb since it didnt install). I just dont understand why I keep getting this error "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows your running. Check your computers information to see if you need an 32 bit (x86) or x64 (64bit) version of the program. Then contact the software publisher."

OS: Windows Home Premium 64bit
Memory: 4.00 GB
CPU: AMD Athelon Duel Core 1.5 Ghz
Video: ATI Radeon HD 3200

apparently this message is displayed when you try install a 16bit software and win 7 x64 wont install 16bit games /software so you may have to research virtual pc then play with virtual xp i think , some one who knows about virtual pc is what may be needed here

Its a "Pre-Collectors" edition that has the original Command and Conquer on it (which loads, and plays.......DOH!) So maybe thats the deal? I dunno....... Anyone else have this problem, and get around it without an XP partition, or Virtual PC?

I tried copying the files from the disc to a folder, and putting that folder into the x86 Program Folder and that was a dud too. However, I did find that Microsoft has a free downloadable version of Windows XP to use with Virtual PC here Download Windows XP Mode. Only "catch 22" is that you must have either Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, or Enterprise to download it. So now at least some good came from this, and I hope it helps other folks, and I will still be looking for a way to play this game!

Yes I did. Only thing I havent tried was using a .exe from a user with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OS, to see if it was the copy I bought with CnC, or if ALL the setup.exe files were 16bit. (sorry I type what I'm thinking and its hard to follow)

Have you even tried to check out the support forums for the game? - Support Home Page

18 – Visit the game’s forums – While we have a wealth of knowledge here, sometimes we need a specialist. I’d expect Bethesda to know more about Fallout 3 then most of us here… just as I’d expect Windows 7 forum to know more about the OS than a game’s website.

My friend also has that problem. i don't have that problem, but i had it with generals. so i think here's the deal: in the legal versions the setup/launch of the game can't create options.ini (in win7). so try to install the game on a pc with xp or something, then put the options.ini (most likely in my documents/Tiberium wars data folder)on a usb stick and paste it into your documents folder in win7 (again Tiberium Wars data). then i think it should work.

According to EA I have the pre-release disc which is 16 bit due to it having the original C&C on it. Yet I have gone through other forums where folks get the same thing and then "magically" it works! (by magically, they never post what they did to get it to install) Now I have done everything in your tutorial, danced around in a grass skirt while shaking chicken bones at it. Still nothing. Oh yeah, the name of the disc while in the drive is "GDI95" or "NOD95". So either Im missing a disc or it just wont go.

don't know if you tried this yet but I see the game is available on Steam and it has this notice:

Notice: WINDOWS 7 USERS: To ensure proper functionality, you must disable User Account Control ("UAC") via the Windows Control Panel before launching the game.

it can't hurt to try if nothing else has worked

As I've said... have you tried the game's forums???

It doesn't hurt to see what they have to say. I'm quite sure some of those guys are running the game on 7. See what they did to get it running.

According to EA I have the pre-release disc which is 16 bit due to it having the original C&C on it.

That "could" be the issue since 16-bit apps/games do have a problem installing under Windows 7.

That game came out in Mar 28, 2007 so there's no way it should be using a 16-bit installer, so... either the game is pirated... or the "pre-release disc" was not intended for public distribution.

Also, according to the system requirements, the game will run on XP as well as Vista (32-bit) only - Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So... :shock:

BTW - 64-bit versions of Windows do not support 16-bit components, 16-bit processes, or 16-bit applications

Thats what I was thinking. I bought it off Amazon, so theres no telling what I got here. I took your suggestion, and started looking deeper into the C&C forums. I have no key for the game, and all I have with the TW logo is the "bonus disc" with wall papers, and scenes from C&C KW. I think I got duped, and just have the original C&C discs for the price of TW............ Is TW available on EADM?
