Hi ya'll,

Here's my problem, I'm trying to install access 2007 onto my windows 7 laptop. I have also tried installing access 2010. both programs are giving me an unknown error during the install. I have tried looking in to it and asked the all knowing google.

I personally don't use microsoft, I use open office but i need the microsoft for my new job. If somebody else has had this error or something along these lines it would really help to know what you did to fix it. I'm at my wits end with this to the point I'm about to just say screw it all together.

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

Please post a screenshot of the error and maybe attach any log file that you can locate*.

*maybe clear out temp files before attempting the install to make it easier to find the install log. Sorry, I don't know exactly where Office puts such a log file. Maybe:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp
or
C:\Windows\Temp
You might need to show hidden files to get to those locations:

Installing mixed versions of Office usually causes problems. And once a problem happens it is difficult to resolve because Office installations are not like normal ones.

Your best bet is to start over. To do this get ahold of the Office Clean utilities (OfClean) for each version and run them. OfClean should remove all the traces of each installation.

After this start with installing Office 2010. If this works you should then be able to install Access 2007, but be sure to install it to it's own unique, separate directory, and not in the default one.

Note that there are major changes between Access 2007 and Access 2010 so if you need to run (or develop) Access applications you will have to be very careful not to create incompatibilities.
