Access denied message on G drive

I am attempting to retrieve files from a Sandisk Cruzer flash drive, but I get a message saying "G not accessible, access is denied."

I went to change the permissions to take ownership of the drive but there was no security tab.

I searched thru the forums and first tried the recommendation to download this:

Add-Restore_Security_Tab.reg​

But nothing changed.

Then I tried to add the tab in Group Policy Editor, but I couldn't find a group policy editor.( I have Windows 7 Home Premium)​

I am not very well-versed in computers so I don't want to go any further on my own. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance!!

Hi there. Just to check with you, does this happen to all USB drives or just this particular flash drive? Might need to check on the format; NTFS, or FAT32.

FAT32 has no "file permissions" so it's really strange. All usb sticks/drives have the problem?

Since when is this problem? Did you install special software afterwards?

This actually had been a problem since I bought this laptop almost 2 years ago. I just haven't taken the time to really try to fix it because I haven't needed to.

I haven't installed any special software in relation to my USB flash devices. I hope I understood your question correctly.

So you go buy a flash drive, put it in this laptop and it gives you an access is denied message, very strange.

Can you plug this same flash drive into another computer ?

What happens then ?

I know, it's driving me crazy that I can't figure this out.

I just put it in another computer and it pulled up all the files normally. It is installed with Windows 8, though. I don't know if that makes a difference.

Just a thought but does anything work when connected to this USB connection? You may want to check that the USB port is enabled within Device Manager?

Shouldn`t make any difference what you hook it up to, it should work.

So something`s up with that laptop, UKMedia may be on to something.

It's surely an error with my laptop, but I checked the USB ports, all are enabled. I think all I should have to do is take ownership of the drive ,but I cannot figure out a way to get the security tab to show up.

It is a FAT32 volume correct? folder and files on a FAT32 folder DON'T HAVE AN OWNER so take ownership is irrelevant.

FAT32 folder have no security tab. This is because there's no security on a FAT32 volume.
