I performed a non - destructive reinstall of Windows 7 and now 85% of the time whenever I select a website I get messages like "Your connection is not safe" back to safety or "access denied"
I even get this "your connection is not safe" when I try to access the local libary.
Everything worked just fine untill I did the reinstall,so obviously that has put something out in my browser.BTW,I am using Opera but I downloaded Chrome and got the same results,so something is out on the PC,but what ?

Based on what you're saying, it sounds like your computer's date is wrong. You'll have to check BIOS/UEFI. Could be the motherboard battery.

If the date is correct in BIOS/UEFI, the check Windows. Beyond that we'll have to investigate further. But before we do, run safe mode WITH networking and try again. Post if that works or not.

Do you know how to get into BIOS or safe mode?

Thank you simpilot for your quick reply.I think I know how to get into BIOS and safe BUT I am not sure so would appreciate some advice.
As I said above,my PC was going ok till I reinstalled Windows,so will reinstalling Windows make the date wrong ?! good one MS.

Lets skip safe mode for right now.

Are you running an anti-virus? If so, temp disable it once and see what happens.

I'd like to see a HAR file. (HTTP Archive). Follow these instructions for Chrome, zip the HAR file and upload that zip file here. Don't log into any website when you generate the HAR file. I'd like to see the HAR file when you do get this error.

Generating a HAR file for troubleshooting – Zendesk help

Again, please don't login to any websites, use a credit card, etc while generating the HAR file. The key information I want here is the HAR file being generated when the issue occurs. That way I know what happened and can better suggest a remedy.

Just an FYI. Opera (company) - Wikipedia

Opera is also owned by the Chinese investment firm Golden Brick.

It's interesting about the Opera v. Microsoft lawsuit when Google is actively doing something similar with Google Web Components... Not to mention FLoC and all the rest. They are trying to own the web!

Anyway, this has been an FYI. Back to the program already taking place...

I went to post a HAR file but the instructions dont say how to do this with Opra browser:

Below are some instructions about how you can easily generate a HAR file using different browsers.

It's difficult to say without seeing the actual cause of the error messages (a screenshot of the HTTPS failure would be a good starting point), but I guess it has to do with missing root certificates. Have you installed Windows Updates?

Mising updates, while not really important, include root CAs updates from time to time, and having those missing means that the browser can't validate the authenticity of the website. As CAs appear and dissapear over time, update to root stores becomes important, and updates manages that. A clean Win7 install without any update is missing more than 10 years of changes in that regard.
A very recent case is Let's Encrypt root certificate expiring, needing a new one for every site they issue certificates for. And they do serve a significant number of pages.

Botom line, if you didn't before, install security updates and try again.

I am and have been using Windows 7 ever since it came out, updates are not aviable for Win7 anymore but as I say I have never stopped using Win7,that is a very long time and I have never had this problem before.Surely if it is a certificate problem I would have incountered it long before now ?!

But you stated that you reinstalled Windows, and as such, all previous updates and tweaks were lost. Your new install is a vanilla 2009 copy, which lacks all the improvements done in the last 13 years (and believe me, they were a LOT).

That's why I suggested updates, there are quite a few that address new protocols and certificates used for HTTPS. And while support for Win7 ended, that only means that no new updates are made, but existing ones are still there available for install. It doesn't surprises me at all that the problem just appeared right after a clean install.

Anyway, and that's the most important part, we still need to see the actual error to give an accurate answer. Up to now, all replies were just guesses, included mine.

Hi Colin,

i see your running a malware thread at Bleep, they advise that no other changes be made whilst troubleshooting...

so please return when its concluded

I will however make a couple of comments
Your non-destructive reinstall --- was it from an image/clone,, i suspect yes
access denied errors in browsers are frequently encountered when your OS is not upto date

and if Danny Ings scores against us......... UP THE SAINTS

Hi Torchwood,Yes I am trying to fix this problem from wherever I can because it is REALLY annoying, its not doing any actual harm but it is getting right up my nose,ok,so here are some ( what I think important details )First off I get 3 different error messages, they are,Oops something went wrong ( only from chess.com )Access denied again only from chess.com.The most common is "Your connection is not private etc etc"With chess.com when I get an error message I just click on the x and start all over again and it always works the second time.Today I looked up Optus to buy a new mobile and the address bar said optus BUT the browser tab said "Hang tight",needless to say I could not access anything else on the page.I have a laptop as well and streight away I loaded up optus and went streight to their website and browsed their phones. This is what I mean about this being annoying but not doing any actual harm. The browser I use is Opra.I bought an original Windows7 DVD when it first came out and have been using it ever since ( no need for a to use a copy )When I first got this problem I installed Chrome but got the same results,so I have uninstalled Chrome. As far as Windows 7 updates goes,I have been using Windows7 ( without updates ) since it first came out ( whats that, about 7/10 years now )I think "Hang tight"might be the name of the virus and it is on my PC but only effects whichever browser I install.
Now that we have S.G. as our manager I expect us to start flying. We have been only narrowly beaten by the best,we will now start to beat the rest.Dont know much about Saints ( I know you are safe )took more of an interest in them when M.Channon played for them.Villa for ever.
