I have used a card reader connected via USB for years. I recently connected my HP D7260 printer to my router via ethernet cable because I wanted to use the printer even when the system it WAS connected to was asleep or shut down. Works great, I can print from any system on the network at any time, but now I cannot figure out how to use the card reader built into the printer.

How can I access that card reader in the printer connected to my router via ethernet from a wireless laptop? Do I have to map the card as a drive? I have tried newer drivers already. Any suggestions would be great. Networks are not my strong point.

The manual doesn't mention anything about using the memory cards from your computer, be it connected via USB or ethernet. It looks to me like they are only used for printing directly from the printer. Can you access the memory cards if you connect via USB?

Yea, it works fine connected by USB. (Directly to a running machine - router does not have a USB port) I have tried using the direct network address but it just says it does not exist. Maybe the printer was not made to be able to use the card reader if connected by ethernet but you would think it would be mentioned somewhere. I cannot find mention of it.

I still think it's possible. I am surprised there are not more resolved cases on the net. There are a number of posts on different forums. Most say drivers are the answer.....maybe I have overlooked something. I have tried the latest network and printer drivers from HPs site.

I also wonder if it has something to do with the router. I am using DD-WRT firmware. I see settings in the interface about the ports and port setup. This firmware has WAY more options that the linksys firmware that was on the router new. It's probably not the problem but for anyone who sees this and knows.....it might have something to do with the router.
