Can I please have a few more letters added to the alphabet please. 24 just isn't enough :p

At the moment I have an XP computer with 6 x 2TB drives in it. No redundant technologies at all. These 6 drives are partitioned to various sizes to accomodate the various categories of information that I have.

For example, I have 2TB set up for movies. I have a drive of 128GB set up just for service packs, updates and patches. 128GB for music... You get the idea.

I just added a 1TB drive for backups. I can then free of the 700gb currently on the server for other purposes (extending existing drives), and so I can get important data backed up regularly.

Problem is, I need to keep a drive spare for my USB stick. So I'm out of drive letters. Oh, I mean on the client, not the server. I have 3 letters left on the server. But my PC has 2 x DVD/RW, 1 x BD-ROM, and 1 Virtual drive. Yes, I have thought about taking one of the DVD drives out.

I've downloaded Librarian and have set up a number of libraries that basically mirror the drive letters. I can access the libraries within applications. But not from "computer" unless I turn on the navigation pane, which drives me nuts.

Since I can't have more letters in the alphabet, I'd really like to get rid of the drive letter concept alltogether if I could and access data inside and outside of applications some other way.

It might be relevant to note that I'm playing around with WHS 2011. As long as that will run ColdFusion MX 2004 update 2, OpenDNS updater, Firebird DB server, and ActiveWall.

I thought of not creating separate drives on the server. For eample, a drive with three partitions could have one partition, with three separate shared folders. Great for the server, but the clients would still need to map each individually.

Also, it might be important to note that there are no "everyone" permissions. Each drive has different permissions for different users. For example, the PC connected to my TV can read files on the Movies drive, but cannot write to that drive.

Any ideas?

thanks
Tanya

Maybe you can have additional letters! Have you tried adding any additional language(s) to your system, which could provide you with additional letters?

Also, just a thought. . . but are you able to utilize any of the symbols or characters from the Character Map as drive letters?

Well. That's elegant;)

I can envisage problems with that...

This seems to be a regular response to this question...
26 Drives? Is there a way around the 26 drive limit in Windows?
