Yes this happened to a friend of mine. He has 8GB of RAM and I told him that he needs x64 to use all of that. He already installed it and I said you'll have to do a clean install once he obtains the x64 version (Home Premium).

The only question is how does he obtain the x64 version? Does it cost money? How can he do this for free? He just purchased Windows 7 only a couple of days ago.

Its only a 32 bit disc, how does he get the 64 bit version?

Well for one to obtain the 64 bit version you have to buy it. There's no free way, also this is a retail disk right? Also not sure what the policy is of where ever he purchased his OS but I would try to find out if he can exchange it for a 64 bit version if it's not to late. If he can't exchange then I'm sorry to let your friend know but he will need to buy a 64 bit version if he wishes to utilize all of his 8 gbs of ram :zip:

I think he could download it from mydigitallife.info and then activate with the same Product Key he got with the 32 bit version. It's an ISO you would then burn to a disc. As far as I know, the Product Key will work with either version--but just one at a time.

Be sure to download the same version as he has now--Home Premium, Professional, whatever.

Eh because I thought keys were tied to say a 32 version and so on  Now that I see you can put it on 32 or 64 bit the same key as long as it's the same say home premium,so on. Goes to say the more you learn the more you better yourself. Nice fact to know, now in the future I will know about this.
