I just went to save something on a USB stick, and was surprised to see it referred to as Drive F whereas it has always been Drive E. When I looked closely, I could see that Drive E is now a second CD/DVD drive; I only have the one CD/DVD drive, and it has always been (and still is) Drive D.
Can I just delete this extra drive? How can it have been created?

Are you running any software that creates ISO files? These can sometimes create a virtual drive to mount the ISO files? Also NERO has been known to create an additional CD drive!

Thanks Mitchell65. Yes, I have just installed a program that puts ISO files onto USB sticks. Does this mean that I cannot delete the new drive as long ast the new program is on my laptop?

I have to say my only experience with ISO files is the use of Macrium Reflect to create backup images of my "C" drive! What program have you installed and what do you need it for? There may be a registry fix that will stop the program from creating a virtual drive!

What program are you using to create/mount the ISO?

Usually one can disable the creation of virtual drives - as well as the number of virtual drives to be created - in the program settings. ( even in programs that create ISOs + virtual drives)

For example, I use Slysoft Virtual CloneDrive. I can disable or create 1 to 15 virtual drives. I keep it on one and that is always present in My Computer.
